emergency player on the bench (maybe 2)

any hint of concussion and you are off for the rest of the game, possible further time off pending tests

Extending the Interchange bench is something that should be looked at. We are going to have more players ruled out of completing matches compared to 5 or 10 years ago.

Genuine question: Whose responsibility is it to take them off the field? The on-field trainer? The Club doctor? Somebody from the NRL? Alex Glenn obviously had a blow to the head last night, and yet didn't have a HIA until the 1/2 time break.

Clubs responsibility, everyone could see he should have been off. The club failed in their duty, this is why the legal case against the Knights. The broncos are lucky he didn't take another head knock or they could be facing the same legal case in a few years time. They still might if it happens again and he ends up with some problems in years to come.

OK, but I'm looking for something more specific. Is there somebody from the club who has been designated as being responsible for taking players from the field for the HIA test?

There is a little tent on the sideline where the Club docs review the incident on a monitor and make a call for the blue shirt to bring him off for a test I think.

Look blokes will shed hundreds of thousands off their annual salary to play for Brisbane so whats a bit of dementia in your 40's - you'll forget your own name but I'm sure the honour of playing for Wayne is a memory that will never be lost.

100+ years of head knocks and we suddenly become so obsessed with the topic .

Or is it we are just becoming more letigous?

As players, you have choices , wear head gear that prevents concussion or opt to go without. McManus chose not to.

If a solid f**king helmet doesn't prevent concussion in NFL what the f**k is a padded bit of material gonna do?

Concussion = your brain bouncing off the walls of your skull. Unless the headgear is worn internally between the brain and the inside of the skull it will do nothing to prevent concussion.

Play touch football is the answer . Or turn rugby league into touch.

Or tell your son to play netball

Well that addressed absolutely nothing to do with headgear and concussions.

I think you might be more relevant to discussions surrounding brain injury than you're aware.

We used to believe the world was flat

Does that make it right?

We learn things and progress

Well some of us do

We now know the consequences, bit like smoking!

Doesn't have to change the sport or people choosing to play it, just means that the sporting body needs to be mindful and reduce risk where possible, and people choosing to play do so informed of the potential risks.

And right there is the problem with the mentality in this sport.

This is not about being 'tough' or 'manly'. It's about not getting early-onset Alzheimer's or committing suicide at 35.

I agree make the game safer . But let's not go down the same letigous path as the states.

In 2013 NFL were sued 765million USD (1 billion AUD) . Please don't let this happen to our game.

The only way to stop that is to stop the head injuries.

I genuinely don't know how you can do that in league without major changes.

The problem for the NFL is they knew of the issues and didn't act, burying the information and placing players at risk.

The NFL being sued had zero to do with the risk of getting concussion playing the game. As has been pointed out a thousand times, they got sued because they hid evidence of the long term health risks associated with concussions and did nothing to reduce the risk or even warn the players of the risk.

McManus isnt suing because he got concussions playing the game, he is suing because he does not feel the Knights followed best practice guidelines in dealing with his concussions.

With revenues somewhere around 14 billion USD it really isn't going to break that code.
