found this on the official site:
The Parramatta National Rugby League Club wishes to advise that a meeting was held this afternoon regarding player Jamie Lyon.

Present at the meeting were Jamie Lyon, his manager Allan Gainey, along with Parramatta Eels Chief Executive Denis Fitzgerald, General Manager of Football Sports Greg Mitchell, Head Coach Brian Smith and Football Manager Tony Zappia.

“The discussions were long and fruitful. Jamie has asked to return to Wee Waa where he can make a decision on his future. We expect an answer from him some time next week,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

“I can confirm that Jamie has not, and will not, be granted a release from his contract with the Parramatta Club in order that he can play for any other Club, including the Wee Waa Panthers,” Mr Fitzgerald added.

Following the meeting with management, Jamie met with a number of his team mates to discuss future options.

I thought they might have allowed him to play for Wee waa which would allow him to keep his fitness and interest in the game.
It's good that he was at the meeting and had a chance to speak with former? teamates. I'm sure they'd remind him of how great it is to play in front of big crowds and that he will be a long time retired, why not play for a few years while he still can.
He has a clear cut choice at least.

The key thing could be his team mates trying to entice him back....this is where Mick Vella's charm comes into account

Keep him away from HJ then - he could end up a suidice bomber in the West Bank

He signed a contract and just can't do the Harry on us and expect to get what he wants. Parra made a big commitment to him by giving him a lengthy contract on good money and he should return the favour and honour it.

Well the fact that nothing conclusive was decided upon today leaves the door ajar i guess.

I also agree with not allowing him to have a release to play for Wee Waa.

If he can't handle city life, fair enough he can go home. But he did sign a contract and he has to realise he can't have everything his way.

Hopefully the boys will do enough to convince him to want to come back. but on the flip side its no good if he changes his mind again in 5 or 6 weeks.

I think that it is looking quite likely he will return. The fact he said he wanted more time to think about his decision, at least indicates he has not decided not to play.

Could be quite a smart move by Denis to say it is parra or nothing. At least he now has only 1 decision to make, whether to play or not. A young bloke of his age might just need some of the choices taken away from him.

The other way i read it is that They asked Denis if he could have a release to play for Wee Waa, meaning he doesnt want to return.

But fingers crossed hey. [-o<

PB, agreed, it could mean that. But i think the likely scenario was that Jamie came in and asked for a release, Denis said no chance, and now he has to make up his mind whether to play on or not. Being that he did not say no outright, must be a positive.

Reading that my 1st impression was that Lyon may still return but also if he doesn't then also reading further into that him not getting a release as far as I'm concerned means Lyon will either return in a week when he makes he decision or he will never return to Parra even if he does one day make it back to the NRL.

Sounds hopeful, but lets not get our hopes up - just sounds like nothing much has changed to me - a wasted trip to Sydney....hehehe.....he probably said his bit, our guys said theirs and Jamie agreed to think a bit more.

I also wouldn't say this means he will never get a release, they just didn't grant it right now.

I love it! Great call Fitzy. Now you can throw away 300 000 + under you salary cap for a player that may not come back. How long is his contract for?

So the Eels will lose 10% of their cap until his contract expires if he doesn't agree to come back because he is entitled to that money if he changes his mind at any stage during the life of the contract. I don't think Jamie Lyon is going to sign a new contract to say he can't play anywhere else and release the value of his contract.

Sounds like a lose lose situation to me. Definately more to come on this.

Lyon would be paid on the basis that he plays (baring injury of course) so if Lyon doesn't maintain his part of the contract then why should the Eels be forced to hand over $$$ it will come down to how the contract is written and the clauses within.

Will be very interesting to see what happens if Lyon doesn't come back.

Your all miss the point. Yes he won't be paid if he doesn't play, but you have to keep the money available in case he changes his mind. If he became available again to play, then you need the room under the cap to pay him.

He has a contract for his services. If Parramatta won't agree to release him, then they will be obliged to honour the contract if he does decide to play. You can't spend the money twice under the cap. So at June 30 you won't have his money to spend on buying a suitable replacement and he may never return.
