My hunch is Smith & Hayne had a personality clash. We know Brian didnt get on well with what i would call Alpha-type players. Tallis is one to comes to mind weather you like or loathe him he was one. Jarryd probably saw himself as one from a young age.

Looking back 2006 was such a wasted season.

In hindsight Fitzy should have just punted Smith when he decided he wouldn't extend him after the 2005 Prelim disaster
Signing Hagan set the club back a decade.

I remember being pretty excited by Jakob Loko. Probably the most physically dominant Junior I have seen in the last few years.

He was a brute in Toyota Cup, it was like under 8's pass him the ball and he would score a try.

Came into a struggling first grade team at 18, wasn't mentally ready had off-field dramas and ruined his career.
That's the problem though with all those kids when growing up you pass them the ball and they just score due to size.

They dont actually develop other parts of there game.

Because once they hit the big leagues they are no longer the big kids and are basically one trick ponys who cant steamroll over the little kids anymore because they ain't the big kid.

Very true. He was going to be our SBW. What a fizzer. Same with Pauli Pauli.

He was so abysmal I must have blanked it out of my memory.

Just like you blanked out that Ryles - along with the CEO - said Parra will reduce the number player options offered in the future.
Dude, you really need to think before you post sometimes.

Talagi's 'abysmal' debut was against the Sea Eagles where he scored a try and got some strong wraps from the likes of Fittler and A. Johns. In Fittler's words "you killed it - well done".

Not really... treat the forums as a conversation starter, not a competition ☺️

It probably was his best game in the top grade, agreed. Lol at using commenst from Fittler and Johns to support a point of view... but Talagi on debut still worryingly showed the potential for defensive lapses - which was subsequently borne out in his other games, including most recently for Samoa.

So abysmal, that even Panther fans are now questioning whether Talagi capable of defending at five-eighth in the front line... and that he'll likely end up only a winger (on spine money). You can bet Ivan Cleary is also hedging his bets, based on what Blaize has(n't) shown.

Yep, the hype machine was well in motion among league "identities" like Fittler and Johns, before the guy even donned an NRL jersey.

Talagi's player-manager did well - not least of which scamming Panthers for NRL spine contract money when the guy can't even defend!

The SG ball side that won last year should have only been playing in Flegg this year. BA rushed them all through and probably over inflated certain players stock.
Blaize wasn't anything special in Ball to be rocketed to the NRL side especially as the next fullback.

He's a good prospect and a player I would have preferred to keep. Everyone's player manager is out to f**k clubs in the arse. Would love to see all of them publicly melted.

You're entitled to your opinion. But the young man can't defend.

I expect him to be a liability for the Panthers, be shifted to wing or Cup, and that we will be proven to have dodged a bullet given Talagi didn't take up our offer.

Agree that his defence is suspect. I expect it to improve at the Panthers.

Shows the class difference between both clubs. We've been jizzing ourselves, the Panthers might not even use him as a regular first grader. I think he is promising, but not a world beater just yet.

I'm sure they'll continue to use them as needed, just like they have in the past. Ryles won't change that, as negotiation is not his job. But they will continue to shut down dumb questions by the media with nothing answers.

And yet the four time premiers have shelled out big money for him. He's been on every club's radar for a long time, which is why we couldn't lock him down on the cheap. Talagi has massive potential. As bad as his defence was, it was still better than most future NRL players his age.
