Dragons could be without Ryles in 2004

Just when you thought St George Illawarra's injury curse had ended, comes the news that the National Rugby League club has resigned itself to being without Jason Ryles this season.

Ryles suffered a shoulder injury during last year's third State of Origin game when he put a massive hit on Queensland forward Petero Civoniceva and came off second best. He underwent surgery in the off season which was expected to have him back on the paddock in April.

However, coach Nathan Brown has confirmed the injury hasn't healed as expected and Ryles is no certainty to play this year.

Can't say I'm overly surprised. Good luck to Rylesy, hope to see him on the paddock sooner rather than later.

I read something similar to this in the Herald this morning. It upset me to such an extent that I was unable to enjoy my bowl of Froot Loops. Particularly distressing was a quote from Martin Raftery, saying to Nathan Brown something like: "Plan for a season without Jason Ryles".

It could be worse then just a season too.

I feel so sorry for the big fella. A good player and at such a young age to have a shocker of an injury.
