And the man at the epicentre of a narrative he never envisaged is Jason Smith, the 44-year-old former Queensland Origin star rated one of the most gifted rugby league players of his generation.

Yet I Bleed Moron has never hear of the f**ker.

JASON Smith scans the internet on his mobile phone, each Google entry a haunting reminder of a cocaine ordeal he accepts may forever haunt him.

“Look at this,” he says, sliding his phone across the table.

Not even Jason Smith has heard of the f**ker before

Most people who haven't experienced Smith's anguish, whether it be self inflicted, imagined or real, are never going to understand unless he tops himself. My mind is as broad as Serena's arse so I'll only ever remember him for the RL player he was . . . nothing worse than being one of most people

THE alleged kingpin of a cocaine cartel linked to some of Queensland’s biggest football stars will stand trial on drug trafficking charges.

John Touma faced a brief committal hearing at Southport Magistrates Court on Monday morning where he was ordered to stand trial on charges of trafficking, supply and possession.

Prosecutors tendered vast volumes of evidence including 168 witness statements.

Touma’s arrest followed a year-long covert investigation by the Crime and Corruption Commission which also uncovered links to some of the state’s biggest football identities.

Code hopper Karmichael Hunt and former Origin great Jason Smith have already been sentenced on minor drugs charges.

Several past and present Gold Coast Titans were also charged with cocaine offences, but most of the charges were eventually dropped.

Touma’s trial is likely to be held sometime next year.

Former NRL star Jason Smith's pub gutted by fire

A suspicious fire has ripped through a former NRL star's pub, gutting the building and triggering a police investigation.

Emergency services called to former North Queensland, Parramatta and Canberra player Jason Smith's Toowoomba pub about 11.30pm on Sunday saw large flames dominating the entire top floor.

No one was inside the Mill Street Tavern at the time and it took eight fire crews an hour to control the blaze.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokeswoman said the hotel was still smouldering about 8.30am on Monday.

The pub's awning collapsed, with as much as 20 per cent of the building still inaccessible as a fire investigator arrived to determine a cause.

In June, Smith, a former State of Origin and Test player, pleaded guilty to eight charges of possessing more than two grams of cocaine.

Justice Ann Lyons sentenced him to a term of three years' imprisonment but ordered he be released on immediate parole.
