Parramatta halfback Jeff Robson set to sign new deal with Eels today

AT LEAST two NRL clubs are circling Eels No. 7 Jeff Robson - but the Grand Final playmaker is expected to sign a new two-year deal with Parramatta today.

After a day of celebrations, Eels boss Paul Osborne will return to work today with the job of keeping together his over-achieving team.

With the Eels already expected to lose lock Todd Lowrie to the Storm, Osborne will meet with Robson this morning to nut out a new deal.

"A couple of clubs have shown some interest in Jeff," his manager Gavin Orr said. "But he really wants to stay with the Eels. At the moment he is still unsigned but I will talk to Paul today.

"Hopefully things will be resolved but we will have to wait and see."

A dejected Robson told Sport Confidential he was desperate to stay with the Eels after his side's heartbreaking defeat.

"I hope I will be here next year.

We will be even better next year and I want to be part of the team," he said.

"We are all disappointed with the loss but we have a lot to be proud of."

The Eels are resigned to losing hooker Kevin Kingston, who has been linked to the Panthers.

Sounds promising... I would have thought a one year deal was most likely, but we'll wait an see the announcement.

I hope, for our salary caps sake, that some players are taking cuts because we seem to be spending a bit. Either that or the old admin of the club werent spending anywhere near the full salary cap.

I will be very suprised if we sign robson. yeah he did a decent job this year but we are covered for halves and he really plays like a lock anyway. Personally id rather see those dollars spentr on a guy like karl filliga to cover the outside backs.

Karl Filiga has a lot still to prove in the game. maybe a second tier contract, definitely not top 25.

How is Filiga going? Is he going to get a shot at first grade next year, He is still contracted to us isn't he?

The way I see it he was never contracted to us. He signed up to Wenty. He may get a part timer spot because he is young and versatile

I think we saw in the grand final why Robson has played a limited number of NRL games, great for back up, but will find it tough when the tempo is upped.

Not his fault, but I hesitate to think he would be on a good full time contract, we played for most of the last 10 games without a real need for a 7, the ball went to Hayne, Morts or Mateo .

100%, he's served us well but with but with a Genuine halfback on Sunday things may have been different.

Fair go, he's been under pressure for 12 weeks playing sudden death football and we knocked off the teams sitting 1, 2 and 3 to make the Grand Final. I agree he lacks creativity and doesn't have the 'x' factor but I find him very safe and hope he gets first crack at halfback next year.

Great to hear you guys have resigned him but I would have thought K Keating should be the starting half next year. Robson would be good as a bench hooker.

Cletus, good call because I think if KK had not broken his ankle when coming back there would have been enormous pressure on Robbo.

I think that a lot of people have not seen KK long term, the coaching staff have a real high opinion of him, that is why Finch was let go in, a sense

I too think Keating will be halfback, with robson off the bench if kingston goes, if kinga stays then I think robbo will be back with wenty. But it should make the trials interesting next year
