you only change positions in a team if you have someone better than jennings. At this point we do not have anyone even close so jennings stays in the centers

People love Girds because he was a pretty boy. If Fittler stayed in the centres, he would have been the greatest centre of all time. His downfall was that he also possessed a great kicking and passing game and had to move in closer to the action. I'm afraid Girds runs a close 4th in the pecking order in my list.

People love Girds because he carried the team for 4 years by himself. Girdler created so many chances for Beckett and Rooney too i bet he has as many try assists for Penrith as Fittler had i guarantee it actually.

What has Jennings done that Girdler hasn't ? Izzard was a good player but hot and cold and arguably his best season was at five eighth.

Jennings is only 22, and has been playing outside some ordinary halves. I'm confident he will develop into the best centre for Penrith in our history. I liked Izzard because everytime he got the ball or made a tackle, you had a feeling something interesting was going to happen. Same with Freddy and Jennings.

So from say 1996 to 2004 you didn't get that feeling when Girdler got the ball ? I find that rather strange especially in the late 90's.

Geez a bit hard on girds rating him below izzard. Girds was a creative, intuitive player with a brilliant kicking game. He could do the unexpected and pull it off.

Whereas Izzard was a blond version of matt utai .... or the tigers winger tuiaki.

Perhaps Fibro you rate Izzard so highly because he used you as a speedbump all those years ago. :D

I rate Izzard so highly because he was a standout in a team of plodders when he first burst onto the scene. He was a destructive runner of the ball and had a good step and turn of speed for a solid bloke. He could pull off the big hit in defence one on one. He was a player that could turn a game. Every team needs a couple of players like that in their team. Maybe some of you supporters weren't lucky enough to sit on the hill and watch the Panthers every second week from the early 80's like I did?

Girds was a great player, but I use my own rating system when it comes picking favourites. Alot of people didn't rate MG either, but he definately uspet the game plans of many teams with his aggresive defence.

The game has changed alot since the 80's, and a bloke like Izzard probably wouldn't have been as good as Girds in the modern era, but was a standout for me in the 80's.

I get what you are saying and i am certainly not bagging Izzard he was a great player. He must of stood out in the early 80's to be fair my memory only goes back to 89, You have to remember we had some pretty bad teams in the mid to late 90's usually due to injury but Girds was still a shining light and many times the only quality player we had his two worst seasons for Penrith 2001,2002 were the clubs worst for many years.

I also think Izzard and Girdler would of been outstanding in any era. Also any fan who didn't rate MG was a fool if we were able to keep him and the core from 91 we could of had a fantastic dynasty to rival the Raiders,Broncos of that era.

I'm a huge fan of Girds, and certainly not detracting from his ability, it's just an opinion, and when Izzard was running around I was only a young bloke and didn't have the knowledge of the game that I do now, but he stood out in that Panthers side the same way Brandy did when he first played FG.

Girdler and Izzard were different types of players with different strengths but both were great players for our club.

Jennings is an entirely different player again. If only he had some of Girdler's strength's, particularly, his ability to set up his winger's. Throw in ball handling skills, or should I say catching the ball, which is something Michael need's to work on in the off season.

The one thing ME need's to do in 2011 is to develop a game plan and offensive structure which create's opportunities for Michael Jennings something which largely was lacking this season. He really received very little space or attacking opportunities from set plays and in the main was left to 'scraps' out of dummy half, intercepts or backing up break's made up the centre of ruck. He along with likes of Michael Gordon is our most potent attacking weapon and we need to create more clear cut opportunities for him otherwise his talents are surely wasted.
