Round 3 - Jersey Flegg and Premier League

Well luckily for me I was able to get off work early on Friday so I was able to take in just about every minute of the Jersey Flegg and Premier League games.

We won the Flegg comfortably in the end, but at halftime it was 6 all. The boys defence was reminiscent of the guys in Firest Grade, it was bloddy brutal. Our back row, mainly Luke Fatnowna and Luke Gordon, made some tackles that hurt just to see. I have rarely seen a Bulldogs pack hit as hard and consistently as ours legally hit them. In attack the stand outs were fullback Casey Conway (a tall lanky type who the Bulldogs had trouble tackling). Props Ben Hannant bagged a double scoring 2 tries, and his partner Steve Meredith (who had another fine game) bagged one also. Also centre Iosia Tauasa set up 2 tries and scored a ripper himself, the Bulldogs couldn't stop him running around them, through them, or over them. A late change saw Peter Taylor start at halfback with Troy Malcolm shifted to hooker.........and it was a master stroke. Once the boys got their handling right in the second half, Taylor orchestratetd the attack so well he was voted Player's Player. As I said, it was 6 all at half time, but the boys won 34-10.

If Jersey Flegg saw poor handling, then so did Premier League. Unfortunately, our boys couldn't correct their problems. Luke Phillips was a late withdrawl, with five eighth Grant Rovelli playing fullback and Willie Bishop starting at five eighth. They got off to a good start with Luke Dorn putting through a well timed grubber for Grant Rovelli to touch down next to the posts, but Willies Bishop muffed the conversion. It was down hill from there.

Time after time, we would cough up the ball and put the Bulldogs in great field position. They tried hard to keep them out but the Bulldogs kept grinding away. George Rose ground away but was kept relatively quiet. David Shillington made his first appearance for the year but was just solid, he looked a tad rusty for mine. Best of the forwards was Todd Olliver for mine. In the backs Tyrone Smith had a shocker with his handling, and Lopini Paea tried hard. Sam Perrett looked good again with his limited chances having been shifetd to the wing, whilst Rovelli looked all at sea taking the highball at full back. The best player on the park, and voted Player's Player was Gavin Lester. In fact Ricky Stuart said back at the club that if he kept playing like that the guys in First Grade should be very worried. The fulltime score was 18-8 to the Bulldogs.

It was a great night. Also in First Grade, Anthony Minichiello picked up the Player's Player Award, whilst Stuart Webb took out the Supporters Club Award.

When I see the scorer's in the paper I will update the full llist of try scorers, and when the public section is re-opened, I'll place a copy of this post there.

Not a problem Accy, it was a good read. NRM is really good at this type of thing. I'm always happy to get info, it's just that sometimes it's not always available. I do try and answer any questions though.

If not, do you know where they have gone?
