I have received some good design ideas for our new logo. I will be taking these to the committee on Wesnesday night.

That means anyone who wants to enter a design or two has less than 48 hours to meet that deadline.

Anyone worried about the jersey being a Cronulla replica, I can confirm it will not be in that design.

Give us ya best.
How did the meeting go?

How did the meeting go?
We got a lot done, but no decision on the logo. That's been deferred to the next meeting. All designs I received were presented, which I think has helped convince the board that there should be a change, but they wanted time to think about it and consider the options.

Thanks to the people who contributed ideas and designs.

I'm looking into opening a merch store where a customer can purchase pre-designed t-shirts/hoodies/caps/etc... and/or make their own custom merch using provided logos and design assets from my site.

All of the logos and designs would be originals, with no official licenced names or design assets (for legal purposes). I would probably start off with something simple like alternate monogram logos and then look to include things like patterns and whatever comes to mind.

I want to integrate store links into posts on my site, so if a visitor sees a logo or design that they like, they can buy casual merch and even decide what product to apply a design to and how the elements are laid out.

The products would be digitally printed and/or screen printed as embroidery and sublimation are cost/time prohibitive at this stage, hence the focus on casual merch and not playing gear. I'd just be providing the designs and letting a third party handle the manufacturing and logistics to save time at the expense of profit margins.

The idea behind it is to provide an alternative to conventional merchandising without stepping on anyone's toes with regards to licencing. I also want to make use of the large of amount of designs I've produced, and want to continue to produce, over the years. The store would most likely be a slow rollout (6-12 months) as time is limited to work on these kind of projects.

If anyone has ideas or feedback, or especially prior experience with such a setup, please let me know by PM. I'm particularly interested in thoughts on pricing as I don't want to charge ludicrous amounts but would like a bit of cash in my pocket for time outlaid.

And mods, please feel free to move this post as I didn't know whether it was best to put it here or in the Ask Us Anything section.

I'd love to see the old 70's and 80's cartoon mascots on shirts again like I had as a kid. Would these old NSWRL designs still be owned by the clubs or NRL?

These on tees - would look awesome. [Sorry, I couldn't upload one image so cut it in to four].

I'd love to know who actually designed / drew them too.

I wonder if the NSWRL / clubs would licence these to you as a gimmick tee?

Folks in their 40's now would get all nostalgic for these logos. They were literally plastered on everything - bed sets, flags, sloppy joes, bags, lunch boxes, key rings - the amount of merchandise in the 1980s was insane. This was the back cover of the 1983 Scanlens sticker book.

I love those old ones, and then later they had ones for the Knights Broncos and Giants and later Seagulls.

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far. These retro styled designs might be something to look into down the track but I would be hesitant to start with something like this for the following reasons.
  • Licencing - even if the NRL (or whoever else) has not maintained the licence for the logos, they still own the club names. Licencing of the names adds to overheads and I would be operating with a tight profit margin as it already is. With 47 Brand bringing out a retro line, it may also be a conflict of interest for the NRL to grant licences on similar logos.
  • It takes a very long time to vectorise these kings of logos for printing. Some manufacturers allow non-vector logos but it does affect the finished product.
Combining these factors would mean a lot of work for very little profit, if any, unless I can sell a boatload of them. However I will not have the upfront cash to print up a heap of t-shirts and am leaning towards drop-shipping at the moment (print/ship on demand, lower profit but no upfront costs).

I wouldn't rule it out in the future but I'd like to first establish a base set of designs that are cheaper on my end, build up some funding and then look into a licenced option.
