The maker of the old Newtown jets jerseys has been closed down and a friend of mine picked up a few of em. i wonder if anyone nows more their apparetly is hundreds of em for free

This is critically important. Can anyone find out who these people are A.S.A.P.?

As they are definitely not paying a cent to the Jets for the past/present use of the club's logo and design, it's imperative that these stocks of jerseys are secured by the Jets.

Why? Because if these jerseys are being sold all over the place for next to nothing, the club will find it very hard to make any jersey sales at all this year - every cent of which goes towards putting our players on the park.

I know some might think it's great that supporters can pick up a jersey at a low price, but let's think of it this way - what's the point of getting a cheap Jets jersey when your club can't afford to put a team on the field?

Except for jerseys sold direct by the club, Newtown has not received a cent for any Jets jerseys sold since 1982/3.

That includes the "Throwbacks" and ones made by Goodfellows. All the while, though, the club and its supporters have had to find a way to pay the costs associated with keeping its teams going, while these parasites have enjoyed a free ride and a laugh at our expense.

I repeat - it's imperative that we find out who these folks are and make sure that, even in liquidation, they don't make any more money off our club's near century of blood sweat and tears without putting anything back.

i understand the problem with manufacturers selling products and not paying royalties to the jets but it must be understood that at absolute least the jersey sales are offering exposure for the Jets.
i know myself that i can not afford a Jets jersey sold through the club but could afford a jersey from Goodfellows and also another for a friend which only cost $16.
the jets will always have their hardcore fans but a large share of new supporters would follow the jets as a second club and most likely would not be prepared to pay upwards of $120 for a jersey.
and what will the jets do if they are to get these jerseys that are currently circulating?
a great initiative would be to sell these for bargain prices to appeal to these jets fans. whilst not the authentic product it still means profit for the jets and exposure for the club.

Mono: I take your point about "casual admirers" preferring not to pay full whack for a jersey, but the fact remains that anything not produced with the permission/license of Newtown RLFC is stolen goods.

It's worse still if these stolen goods are sold (as in this case) even cheaper than the thieves usually sell them for.

Not only does a club that's really struggling to keep its head above water make exactly zip from it, they also definitely lose a potential sale as the purchaser now has what he figures is a "perfectly good Jets jersey".

One would only hope that they enjoy wearing their fake jersey to the games of some other club who hasn't had their property stolen and can therefore afford to continue to put a team on the park).

My suggestion is that those who can't afford $120 for a real Jets jersey just get a t-shirt until they can afford the full $120 (it's still much cheaper than an NRL jersey) or perhaps buy one of the reduced-price seconds that are available from the club.

My question remains. If anyone knows where these jerseys are being sold, PLEASE inform the club. It might be one of most helpful things you can do for the poor old battling Bluebags.

You make an excellent point about the importance of buying jerseys from the right source. Fact is, the jerseys wouldnt exist in the first place if it wasnt for the efforts of the club. So support the club and buy the genuine article.

Maybe the club should look at trying to get the offical jerseys into some shops around town? Or at least in the Inner West? Or how about getting some into the shops of King St, we all know how busy it is and how many new people are moving into the area. At least the club will be making some money out of each sale, rather than none.
