Does anybody have details for the Jim Beam Cup Sevens which were scheduled to be played next weekend at the Windsor Complex.
a Jim Beam Composite team has been included in the World Sevens Qualifiers draw though does anybody know if this will be a Jim Beam selection or the winner of the Jim Beam Sevens comp?
also Rugby League Review stated the comp was likely to include 12 teams though as Newtown are already included in the Qualifiers draw will they take part or will we be left with a 11 team comp?

Windsor sevens is on 17 Jan. The winner goes through to the St Marys qualifier. The top 2 teams at St Marys then play in the World 7's. Both Windsor and St Marys will feature 4 groups of 3 teams. As Newtown has managed to win only 4 games in 2 years, there does not seem to be any risk of duplicate teams at St Marys. There is no composite Jim Beam team playing at any of the tournaments.

I am told the winning team at Winsdor will play under the JB team name in case they win through to the COUGAR World 7's.

That doesn't make sense. Calling themselves the Jim Beam Cup Composite team would draw attention to the competing brand of Bourburn more so than just saying "Newtown".

Surely the possibility of Newtown JB playing Newtown PL at St Mary's would have something to do with it too.

Still, what a right shame. I bet the sponsors of the club would be annoyed. You sponsor a club, they tell you about this potnetial exposure and you are robbed of it.

The Jim Beam Sevens will commence at 3pm on Saturday 17 January - admission is $2. Windsor are very confident of winning Pool A against Newtown and Erina.

Windsor have signed Australian Aboriginal rep Craig Trindall. Trindall reprsented NSW residents in 2001 and has spent the past two seasons with Doonside in the Penrith A grade after he declined to honour his contract with South Sydney for 2002.

The Wolves have also signed Wade Lestrange from the Wentwothville reserve grade and Lino Salafai from the Cougars. Lestrange has played in the top grade for Parramatta but found himself as 3rd string hooker at wenty last year.

I can see the Wolves moving up the table. Trindall is worth at least 12 points per game.

Imagine the St Marys-Penrith Cougars win the Jim Beam Cup 7s and then the Cougars qualify as the Jim Beam representative team for the Cougar Wrold 7s

Do the Cougars still have a Jim Beam team? The Panthers web site says that the Cougars are just in premier league for 2004.

it would be dissapointing if St Marys have no involvement in the Jim Beam Cup in 2004.
they have a strong history in the competition and also great facilities and resources wasted at a local level.

the first game will commence at 3.
the first semi will be played at 7.15 and the final at 8.30.
Woy Woy have been pooled with Cabramatta and Wentworthville and another pool features Newtown, Windsor and Erina.
Cabramatta will be bring a supporter bus and heres hoping there will be a large crowd in attendance.

The Sydney Bulls won the Jim Beam 7's tonight at Windsor and now progress to St Marys 7's on Wednesday.

Windsor, the Bulls and Souths Jnrs were all favoured to win their pools but Cabramatta returned to the competition by springing a surprise in Pool D when they beat Wenty under the golden try rule after the scores were even at full time.

In the semis the Bulls were far too strong for Cabra, winning 26-6, with Sam Rakabu scoring a hat trick while Souths finally got over the top of Windsor but not before Craig Trindall scored the try of the day after possession changed hands at least four times after the half time siren.

Steve Jolly and Jason Peseta displayed skills and strength in each of Cabra's games while Trindall and Lino Salafai were best for Windsor.

Rob Downton was an interesting member of the Wenty team. He played 3rd grade for the club season and was used as a reserve for the 2nds but appeared at the Jim Beam semis as a travelling reserve. He was the only Wenty player to go through both of today's games without being substituted.

The bulls won the final 27-14. Souths player Roy Bird proved to be almost unstoppable in all 4 games.

The Bulls chances on Wednesday will be at the mercy of the Judiciary after Fijian rep Epa Navale was placed on report in the game against Ourimbah. His size, mobility and experience make him a key man.

Results

Windsor bt Erina 34-5, Souths bt Narellan 36-6, Bulls bt Ryde Eastwood 32-18, Cabramatta bt Woy Woy 37-12, erina bt Newtown 17-10, Souths bt The Entrance 27-10, Ourimbah bt Ryde 12-11, Wenty bt woy Woy 36-4, Windsor bt Newtown 20-18, The Entrance bt Narellan 35-8, Bulls bt Ourimbah 38-15, Cabramatta by Wenty 25-21.

A great day's football.

Despite it being January the crowd was disappointing to say the least, the day deserved more local support as it was wayto far away for many other teams to have supporters attend. The two best teams on the day made the final and from what I saw in earlier games the Bulls deserved to win they played well all day. Congratulations Bulls.

It's good to see Steve Jolly will be running around in the Jim Beam Cup again. I've always held a high opinion of the guy.
