Bulls have got Adam Tippett back from Tigers this year. The backline looks strong again - but maybe they're a bit light on in the forwards. George Azzi has gone to Balmain - he'll probably get more game time there than he did with the Bulls.

The results of the Sharks trials against JB teams were:

Sharks beat Entrance 16-0, Erina beat Sharks 6-0, Sharks beat Ourimbah 30-0 and Sharks beat Woy Woy 6-14.

A good result for Erina who follow in the footsteps of Guildford who in 2002 managed to beat the Northern Eagles 14-8 over 2 quarters. The variations in the Sharks performance suggests that the top side played against the Entrance and Ourimbah whereas Erina and Woy Woy may have lined up against mainly Premier League players.

Anyone know of any Jim Beam trials this weekend?

The trial was at Redern. Newtown won 20-16. I think Souths had a lot of Flegg players though.

Newtown's trial against Narellan has been brought forward from Feb 28 to this Saturday Feb 21 at Henson Park at 3pm. it will be the curtain raiser to the first leg of the Frank Hyde Cup (Newtown vs Norths) at 5pm.

Parramatta Premier League scored a try in the last quarter to win 22-18 against Cabramatta Jim Beam. Cabra dominated the first qarter and led 6-0 at the break after an unstoppable Willie Brown crashed over. Parra looked more competitive in the second quarter but Cabra scored again and a Branighan penalty goal on half time made the score 12-0.

Cabra made a lot of changes at half time and Parra ran freely scoring 3 tries. With seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter, Branighan executed a cross kick for Mick Mallia to score. Cabra led 18-16 at the 3rd break.

I didnt see the last 20 minutes but apparently Afagasama, signed from Guildford, delivered the pass for the winning Parra try.

Not a bad hit out for Cabra with the Parra full time squad up north, they faced a fairly young team apart from some experienced players signed for Parra in 2004 - Jim Curtis (Belrose) and Fred Peterson (Roosters).

The Cabra A grade vs Parra Flegg was a stalemate for a considerable period before Parra scored 3 tries in quick succession. Cabra's passes began to stick in the latter part of the game but the lead was too much. Final score Parra 18-16.

The big question is what has happened to Steve Jolly. He was the star for Cabra at the Jim Beam 7's but was not sighted on saturday and Luke Branighan is now making the calls in the no 6 jumper.

Newtown JBC team will play Asquith at 3pm tomorrow at Henson.

It is the curtain raiser to the PL trial against Wests Rosellas.

Asquith convincingly defeated the Jets JB team yesterday at Henson.
The Asquith team had a heavy Maori contingent and seemed to have depth across the park.
I have no doubt if they joined the JB Cup as has been rumoured over the last two seasons that they would prove successful and challenge for the top 5.
Newcastle Wests were defeated on the bell by an understrength Jets PL team though were up by 12 at one stage in the game. If they were to join Jim Beam they would be certain premiership contenders though it seems with the current strength of the Newcastle comp no teams will bother making the switch in the near future.
The Illawarra region is probably a easier expansion area at this stage.

The Rosellas had many familiar names in their side. A lot of ex-Knight squad members.

Asquith were a well drilled unit. Newtown's JB team were woeful. The Magpies had a good side including former Norths PL player, Billy Ngawini.

Perhaps Asquith have been recruiting with a view to coming into Jim Beam next year. The side they had in 2003 won only 4 games in Manly A grade to finish second last.

Cabramatta are looking pretty strong. On saturday Steve Jolly and Robbie Payne, who both played for combined metros in 2002, were on the bench for reserve grade.

Other trial results detailed in the March issue of Rugby League Review are:

Windsor beat Wenty 48-16, Erina beat Sydney Bulls, Erina beat North Nelson Bay, Sydney Bulls beat Raymond Terrace 12-8, Lakes United beat The Entrance 24-22, Macquarie United beat Ourimbah 16-12.

Souths Premier League beat Sydney Bulls 30-4. The Bulls were without Ryan Branighan, Mick Corrie, Chris Salem, Was Naqaima, Paul winterstein, Jasson Asplet, Anthony Mansour, Shane Shackelton and Billy Opetia. The Bulls claim that they are about to sign someone from the ACT Brumbies.

The Jim Beam Preview in RLR claims that Robbie Payne is to captain Macarthur Jets but that must be out of date because he played reserve grade for Cabramatta last saturday.

The provisional Jim Beam draw indicates that Wenty has switched its home games from 4.30pm on saturdays to 2pm on sundays.

surely a smart move.
the crowds at Ringrose last year were dissapointing and hopefully sunday games will be able to attract larger crowds with Parra Cup and division two fixtures acting as curtain raisers.
