Joe Williams stays with Souths

The South Sydney Rabbitohs has today announced the re-signing of halfback Joe Williams to a two-year deal. Williams has decided he wants to remain with the Rabbitohs for seasons 2005 and 2006 after fielding offers from several other NRL Clubs over the past week. He has accepted less money to stay with the Rabbitohs, indicating his faith in the Club and his desire to move forward with South Sydney. "This is as much a statement about Souths' future as it is about the signing of a talented young halfback," CEO Shane Richardson said. Williams said he wants to be a part of Souths as it moves forward. "I'm very happy to be staying on at Souths as I know this Club has a bright future ahead and I want to be a part of that," Williams said today.

Good work by Souths and by Joe Williams to stick with the club that gave him a go.

Thats great news, with some good buys such as hegarty and a good coach they should be moving up the ladder.

Good on him for sticking with the club that gave him a go in 1st grade - and taking less money then what other clubs were offering to do so!

Great signing for the Rabbits. Williams played pretty well behind a beaten pack on the weekend.

another Rooster helping out another club to climb the ladder - well done the Roosters. Souths obviously now they need more Roosters in their club to be successful

Congratulations to Souths. Signing Joe Williams bodes well for the future, however, if he doesn't lift his game in defence he'll probably be overpassed by Rhys Hanbury in a year or two.
I don't think they will be challenging for the 8 next year. I think Shane Richardson is trying to implement a long-term success plan based on developing juniors. Also, pretty much every team near the bottom of the table this year will improve next year. The only way I think Souths could make the 8 next year would be if they had an extraordinary run with injuries.

Are Souths in the market for any good players this offseason? I haven't heard them being linked with anyone of note so far.

I suppose that Australian jersey in Hegarty's wardrobe isn't very noteworthy.

A lot of the rumours coming out of Souths have stopped after Richardson came in. We aren't hearing anything until (or just before) it is announced on the website.
