Joey Leilua re-signs
Tue 22nd April, 02:47PM

Newcastle Knights centre Joey Leilua has re-signed with the Club for a further two years, keeping him at the Club until the end of the 2016 season.

The 22-year-old joined the Knights in 2013 on a two-year contract and has made 26 appearances for the Club, while also representing Samoa in the 2013 World Cup.

Leilua’s commitment to the Club completes the retention of an exciting backline for the Knights.

“Joey got a chance to come here and play and we are elated we have been able to re-sign him,” coach Wayne Bennett said.

“Everyone is realising how much Joey has achieved in his 18 months at the Knights, he has a wonderful skill level and is only going to get better.

“It completes a backline for us with a good mix of youth and experience, and plenty of entertainment value in it.

“Over the next couple of years, this young backline will certainly come into its own in the game while also providing a real stability at the Club.”

The young centre is pleased to secure his future in Newcastle.

“I am really happy to re-sign with the Knights,” Leilua said.

“I am looking forward to the next few years and just want to thank the Club for the opportunity.”

Great stuff. To have him under wraps for a bit longer would have been nice, but still, nice to know we've still got him for two more seasons.

For the fans of the other teams anyway.

Good news, the bonus is that the longer blokes are in Newcastle, the more they grow to love it.

Makes keeping them easier.

I'm really looking forward to watching this young mans football career. He is going to become one of the top centres in the game over the next couple of years and its going to be a pleasure to watch.

Now lets extend Gagai and keep these guys together.

He and Gagai have the potential to be one of the most damaging centre pairings in the NRL. They're not there yet, but if they can work out their kinks they'll be hard to match.

Awesome news about Leilua! The potential is there for him to become one of the best centres in the NRL, if not the best centre in a few years time. Stoked we have him here for a few more years yet :)
