Yes you believe Wikipedia over the official Brisbane government site.

Aren’t you a complete and utter spastic.

Lol, that's Brisbane City council. Like using Sydney City council which means roosters are only Sydney team!!

Lions had reached 4 straight grand finals. That was factor in titans getting in.
Nah like mugs said

They told the bears they were in (central coast) then he couldn’t get the clubs to agree

They held an nrl game on the Gold Coast and soenone put up a sign where’s our team so gallop went on from that

Gold Coast is a major city with a v.fast growing pop and huge junior base so it wasn’t a bad choice

Sydney isn’t Brisbane. The two cities are nothing alike in the way they are set out.

Comparing them is as useless as the oxygen attempting to go to your brain.

You don’t have a clue, I get it. No point trying to argue with you if you’ve never been or lived in Brisbane Ipswich Logan Gold Coast Sunshine Coast about what is and what isn’t.

I disagree. I remember the discussion at the time was the impending threat of AFL. Of course I could have remembered wrong but where's the fun in agreeing?!

Like I said. You clearly have never lived in south Queensland and don’t have a clue about it.

On the topic of emailing. Email your local tafe and get a better education for yourself.

I should go to bed, but please tell me when Brisbane's population is announced & it's about 2.7 million do you ever take issue with that?!

You're wrong. RedBlackBear is correct in his assessment of how the area's are identified and to be fair no one who lives in Ipswich or Logan say they are from Brisbane.

Matter of fact if someone states they live in Springfield and then get asked where that is, they answer by saying in Ipswich or part of Ipswich. If someone asks where Ipswich is they then answer by saying in Queensland. The entire Brisbane spiel is non existent.

Same could be said for example someone who says they live in Yarrabilba. They'll say it's in Logan or part of Logan. Then they'll say Logan is between Brisbane and Gold Coast and in Queensland. But they won't say it is Brisbane.

There's clear defined geographical separations and identities between all South Queensland cities and locations. This blanket is South Queensland and South Queensland has many areas included within.

Whatever the Australian Bureau of Statistics define is completely irrelevant to how locals who actually live and work in these areas perceive the areas to be.

If I had to guess here I would say Bear dude lives in or around south Queensland and you don't.
Just like in the NZ 2 thread it feels like once again non-locals believe to know and understand locations better than locals and to me that's wild.

I love in Logan and in takes me 15 mins to drive to the Brisbane CBD. I mean, yeah it's a different city council technically but it's all part of the greater Brisbane area.

I grew up in Gatton and until just now I honestly didn’t realise Ipswich was considered part of Brisbane on any level. I always just thought it was a complete standalone city.

Bear with bit of a case study below, sorry if it's long.

Re: no money in Sunny Coast.

That's not entirely true. There's plenty of money on the Sunny Coast. It's not like it's Harvey Bay or something like that. The city has grown significantly in the last decade and according to statistics have a current population of 365-370k with an estimated growth of up towards over half a mil in the next 2 decades. Which is when I would anticipate it would be looked at with any genuine seriousness anyways tbf.

You'll find there's a portion of wealthier Brisbanites moving up there to relocate, live & settle. I think it's fair to assume this is the catalyst for recent investment into new developments both from a commercial space (see Caloundra/Maroochydore) and a residential space (see Aura).

The current Sunny Coast stand alone population actually trumps the current Ipswich stand alone population by about 100k. I think it's when you factor in western regions/darling downs inc. Toowoomba that the Ipswich and western regions pull away.

However if you add the the equivalent surrounding regions with similar distances to Sunny Coast i.e Fraser Coast vs Ipswich i.e Darling Downs then Sunny Coast pulls away in lead again.

Estimates:
Sunny Coast 365k + Noosa 57k + Gympie 56k + Maryborough 30k + Harvey Bay 57k = 566k
Ipswich 255k + Darling Downs (inc. Toowomba) 290k = 545k

I wasted 15 mins of my time to type this up that I am sure will get lost in archive history but good food for thought.
Pippen doesn't have a clue about QLD. He thinks Rugby league wasn't even played in northern brisbane until the Dolphins came along.

No they’re not in Brisbane at all. The link I provided literally clarifies this.

To summarise again - Springfield is part of Ipswich. Ipswich is Ipswich, Brisbane is Brisbane, Logan is Logan. All 3 are part of South Queensland region but only Brisbane is Brisbane.

You believe what you want to though mate.
They're all part of greater brisbane though... just different LGA's. I've had this argument with GROTD before... Logan and Moreton Bay are just basically a random collection of suburbs, there is no city to them. Ipswich at least started as a separate city to Brisbane.

Sounds like you're on the boundary of Logan/Brisbane. What suburb are you to only be 15 mins away from CBD? Are you travelling at 200kms an hour?

I dare say people in Flagstone, Buccan, Beenleigh, Jimboomba don't see themselves as part of Brisbane. Those area's can be almost an 1 hour from CBD traffic dependent.

Technically there is central business districts to all regions. Moreton Bay is technically North Lakes near the shopping center. Commercial spaces galore there. Logan is a tad more spread out but Springwood seems pretty central these days, I think Logan Central is technically their center but again Springwood seems to be where majority the commercial business is operated from.

Ipswich is very much its own thing even more so than Logan and Moreton. It technically has 2 business districts in Ipswich Central and Springfield.

Again, not many Ippy or Logan residents sees themselves as being "in" Brisbane.

You south of the river folk must be weird... I've lived in "Moreton Bay" most of my life and literally no one here will say they are from "Moreton Bay"

No but a lot will say from Redcliffe, Caboolture, Bribie Island, D-Bay, Morayfield etc etc etc and when asked to clarify they'll say it's between Brisbane and Sunny Coast. Not in Brisbane etc.

Moreton Bay is relatively new in term anyways. Used to be Pine Rivers for a century plus before it. Bring it back!

yeah its hard to pinpoint the central business area for some of them. Beenleigh started as an old sugar cane town in the 1800s way before Logan was a place. Redcliffe and Caboolture in Moreton Bay started as old towns too.
