It wasnt too long ago that John Lang was coaching the panthers.

We all know the circumstances of his departure and I dont wish to re-visit those days here.

Now despite what the club is saying publically, I understand that he's been given quite a bit of power in his new role at Souths. Whispers say that this will even extend to the selection of the side.

I was wondering whether you guys and ladies think he will be a blessing or otherwise for Souths?

What do you think are his strengths and weaknesses?

Does he have the ability to lift our players or are we wasting our time?

Any and all genuine comments appreciated.

Cheers

Dave.

Strengths: Just go forward and the rest will happen.

Weaknesses: Just go forward and the rest will happen and we will not blood and youngsters.

Lang worked at Penrith because he kept things very very simple. KISS. KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. The acronym is painful but most certainly applies to a game like rugby league. Lang was good 4 Penrith in 2003 because we had players that liked a simple game plan. SIMPLE.

The best thing about John Lang was Justin Lang. Oooh lala!!

It's nice to see Johnny getting a gig.

I don't agree with the not blooding of youngsters. We had a really good mix in 2003 and 2004. I do believe he has a very loyal nature and that worked against him in the end with the boys.

They say you learn from your mistakes.

Having said that maybe the KISS principle is exactly what souths needs at the moment. I haven't really seen to many of their games this season so I could be way off mark but it's not like the players they have don't have talent so maybe they need to start getting back to basics before they can go foward.

Of course the other thing is lang has had a couple of years now to sit out and just observe the game impartially maybe that's given him the chance to see a new approach is needed. So we can't guarantee he'll necessarily have a KISS approach.

He's good with players and I think he'll certainly arrest the rapid downhill slide Souths are currently in. Under Lang, Penrith sides always more or less busted their guts and played for each other. I think this is the first port of call for any struggling team. One which Penrith have addressed and are now improving out of sight and one which I think Lang will be able to address at Souths.

The problem with Lang was his simplicity. It worked great while no one cared about Penrith, but then they figured us out and he ran out of ideas. I guess its why Elliott had such trouble turning the players around after playing such simple footy for 4 years. Inverse applies to Bellamy, no one has figured them out in the 3 years they've been on top.

Good luck to the Bunnies, I'm glad they've had some positive news in the wake of the Lewis backout. Also good to see Langy back in the NRL, I missed hearing from him.

There were a few shock surprises in the Souths line up this week. It was not as selected by JT on Tuesday. Methinks Lang is already at it.

Marty was a player of some note. Perhaps he could come out of retirement and play half?!

I'll second that!!!!!!!! :hitit: :ls:

I'll third it.....:D One of the best things about our season ticket seats was Justin Lang......

On John Lang, he couldn't do any worse....
On Marty Lang, coming out of retiremant won't happen with the way his ankles are.....every training session he would leave with ice packs on both of them.....

Langy took a wooden spoon team to premiers in 2 years.
You can't argue with that, he'll be good for the bunnies.
