i was gonna say....if central coast are serious about RL....why don't they start in the NSWcup as a stand alone team?

Good call.

It would be good step towards taking the NSW Cup from being Sydney-centric to being a NSW-wide comp akin to the Queensland Cup.

Plus, a CC NSW Cup team don't HAVE to go it alone - they can keep their feeder relationship with Souths, or associate with another NRL team.

IIRC Cronulla & Melbourne currently field a joint team in the NSW cup - why not split them & have one aligned with the Central Coast?

Hell, in that case Souths could even get inventive & revive an old Sydney moniker for their reserves - well.. the Roosters reserves play as Newtown. Annandale or Glebe, anyone?

Or Souths could look to another regional centre to base their NSW Cup reserves - and forge a connection to a Country NSW district.

exactly......whether they go it alone or sign up with one of the NRL club surely the first task is to actually set up a club and start playing in a competition?

You mean likes Souths already do with North Sydney?
The whole thing that youre suggesting is geniused.
The NRL has f**ked over the bears and the CC for years.
A NSW cup team wont change a thing. Just like when WA put a team in the bundy cup.

so its geniused to suggest that a new club is set up in a area apparently crying out for a RL club??..

i'd suggest its geniused to bitch and moan about not having a RL club but want a NRL franchise out of nothing...

if the central coast has nothing then its easy to ignore them.....if they have a NSW cup side and SG ball & Harold Matthews teams they can't be ignored

Why don't the Bears move up there as a cc bears nsw team, SG ball team etc?

Maybe THEY THINK that if they field a NSW Cup & age-grade teams from the Central Coast, then the Commission will say "Well, we don't need to put an NRL team there, they already have teams"?

That would be a foolish fear.. I think having an active team in a state league and/or age group comp actually STRENGTHENS a bid's case. Especially if they're successful in that "minor" league - ain't that how Penrith & Cronulla made it into the comp??
