I read with interest today thatt matt johns is looking at becoming an NRL coach by 2009. With shines on the outer and johns doing a good job at melbourne, i believe if we have another poor year Matty johns should be given consideration. He has a good footy brain, loves the tigers and has new ideas on how the game should be played also would know melbourne's strengths and weaknesses back to front.

He Would be the ideal modern day coach.

Much the same as people want to play for Brad Fittler, people would wany to play for Matt Johns.

I think everyone can see the end of the road for Sheens is near. Only an imbecile would then appoint Royce, ahead of someone like Johns or other potentially great young coaches

Johns as coach and Sheens as football manager, that would work fine,Royce would would have to go though.

Which first year coaches do well???????? Taylor (got his side in the 8 JUST after buying the games best forward and a heap of others), Bellamy (he started there in '03), Brown (no comment), Hagan at Parra, Smith at Newcastle, Elliott at Penrith, who????????

When was the last time a first year coach won a Premiership????? Lang come closest after 2 years.

There's a big difference between helping out a few players and coaching a first grade side.

I like the idea mentioned about maybe Johns taking the reigns whilst Sheens oversees things, it has merit.

Its pretty improbable that these days teams will hire a coach that has basically no coaching experience. I mean isnt he employed as a consultant. Usually coaches either come up from coaching lower grade teams and serve as assistant coaches for a while. Johns hasnt done any of these things. No way he will coach in 09.

Apart from a handful of doomsayers on this site, no-one considers Sheens to be "on the outer" just yet. That may change if we have a poor start to 2008. Then again if we start 8&2, Sheens will get another 2 years if he wants it. Too early to be speculating about a novice coach.

It's not the coaching that's killing you it's the recruitment and lack of quality cattle.

Johns should coach a PL side first before reaching for the stars- Fittler is another ready made Ricky. They are buying Freddy as many rep players as they can so they'll build him up to be a "super" coach then when he fails when the cattle leave they'll let him "gracefully" stand down.. it's the stupid Rorter mentality.

I did tell you chopsy i would love to see matt johns as coach. He has a great football head and players respect him. Australia Post would be spewing from the revenue lost as a result of sizzler not being able to snail mail defensive game plans
