Johns to play origin

The timing seems wrong. Johns has already publicly said that he will only play Origin based on his form and fitness etc, and since he hasn't had a single game this season I don't know why he'd announce it now. Plus he will have to be up for selection for the ANZAC test, which he doesn't want to play in.

Prime news is slow news... seriously that chick who does the news updates is way behind ..

It could be thursday nite and she would say somethin like... "and the Knights have won again, beating the dragons 16-12"

Isn't there a clause in his contract preventing him from playing representative games in the final two years of his contract? If he wants to play Origin this year, he should guarantee us that he won't hang up the boots to go play in Warrington at year's end.

Yes and there's also a clause stating if he doesn't play on in 08 he cannot play for any other club worldwide for two years.

The club it seems are willing to allow him to play Origin to help persuade him to play on in 08.

Either way, he'll only ever play for the Newcastle Knights.

Personally I would love to see him play Origin again, especially if this is his last year with us. Come on guys, its ORIGIN!!!! Sure the premiership is important, but IT'S ORIGIN!!!!

He struggled after one test last year. I don't know how he can get through three Origin matches.

I hope he plays SOO.
But then again if he gets injured...

But does it really increase the chances of injury? Maybe a little given the intensity of Origin football. But he won't actually be playing more games. You can get injured in any match.

As I see it from the Knights' perspective:

Upsides
- Terrific motivation for Joey -- a genuine issue at this stage of his career.
- Going through a "big game" series mid-season often serves players well when it comes to semi-final football.

Downsides
- Misses three premiership games for the Knights.
- Origin players can be a bit jaded for a month or two after the series. (As I say above, they usually come back with a vengeance in the finals... if their team makes it.)

Of course it greatly increases the chance. Remember its a rep pack thats running at him. Not blokes like Sims or King, its Petro and Price. The intensity is there, a much more physical and tougher game. Its the difference between PL and FG. A much harder and faster game.

Screw Origin. I want a premiership much much more than winning Origin. He's paid very very well to play for us - if he gets injured and his season is finished playing for any team other than the Knights then the board has alot to answer for...

I did allude to the fact that it's obviously more intense. I'm sure the players come out of it feeling like they've played three normal premiership games. But I don't know -- does it actually have a history of producing more (serious) injuries on average? Bruises are one thing, the kind of awkward falling with a couple of big monsters on you that can lead to various breaks and snaps can happen at any level of footy. Just reading about Walsh's injury in Prems last week made me wince.

I don't have a fixed opinion on this. Just wondering if there are any stats to support the theory that Origin produces more injuries than ordinary premiership games. Of course it wouldn't surprise at all if it's true.

There is nothing I would like more than to see Andrew Johns run onto the field one (or two or three) more times in a Blues jersey. To me Origin has not had the same intensity since July 2005. Not from the Blues side anyway.

Having said that, the increased risks of his playing career for Newcastle being shortened through fatigue, inury etc, by his participation in Origin far outweigh the excitement he would bring to the game.

He had a fairy tale farewell in 2005 - leave it there Joey!

We have to think Buderus and Simmo will probabbly be in the team as well. Perhaps even Kidley if he continues with his current form. Could the Knights survive without 3 or 4 rep players? I think not.

If he playes the Anzac Test i'll be pissed, I flew all the way to Brisbane just to see him play his last test for Australia. Even missed my mums 50th for it so he better not play that.

As for Origin, I hope not I want a premiership badly and winning round games without him is one thing but we need him fresh and firing for finals and if he plays origin he will be buggered by round 18.
