Well it's hard to say cuz apart from match practice what are the other purposes of trial games. Isn't it to give other players in the squad a run?

I think he should play some part of the game. We aren't going to keep him in cotton wool all year, and he'll need a run.

I don't think he should.

It is just a trial game, the bleating that would happen if he got hurt in a trial match would be deafening.

A few teams are resting some of their stars.

Storm on Saturday at the Gold Coast, Broncos are resting Locky & Webcke.

Broncos vs Raiders on Saturday 26th at Toowoomba..

Broncos have already had a trial match in Bundaberg, only about 3 first Graders were in the team.

I say make him play.

I mean it's almost a year since he played last so maybe it would be good for him. As far as i'm concerned he needs to prove that he can still play.

So you want him - our key (and only) playmaker, to go into Round 1 without a game of football in nearly 12 months?

Thats rediculous...

Lifes a b!tch.

Is he 100% fit yet or still 95%

By all means risk him, but remember Barrett in the trial last year.

What's to say that he won't get injured in round 1 if he doesn't play in the trials? I realise trials don't count for anything except match fitness and there's always a possibility that a player is going to get injured, but they are a necessary evil.

As someone else has said, we can't leave him wrapped in cotton wool and he could do with a run to clear out any cobwebs after being sidlined for a year. The guy is getting paid what, about 400K give or take a year. Make him earn it.

He should definitely play at least some part of the game. He needs some match fitness. I would hate to see him run out in Round 1 without playing in almost a year.

Kaz...if you are going in with that attitude why not keep him until the second half of the season so he's right for the finals just in case he gets injured early in the season?

If it's meant to be he will get through the trial fine. He needs the run even if it is 20 or 30 minutes...

play him only if he is 100% fit... think he should get a maximum of half a game against the sharks

the big question is ben...will he be ever fully fit again? he is always going to have trouble with his knee...or his groin...or his neck.

he told us weeks ago he'd be right for the trials, and i'm not saying play him for a full game...

but i am certainly suggesting he needs some sort of run before the season starts to gain some confidence in his knee. we are much better finding out if there are issues now rather than in the season proper.

and talk of "we don't want him injured in the pre-season" is rubbish. our key playmaker can't be kept in cotton wool - get him out there and let him play.

I'd get him out there setting up tries, scoring tries, making tackles and scaring the shit out of the opposition. Get other teams thinking they're up for a big game, instead of thinking 80 minutes of solid footy should be enough.
