I'm not sure how much it would have played on his mind and ultimately played on his decision to retire, but the 1st day of the Adelaide test is exactly 12 months since Phil Hughes passing :(

They interviewed Harry during the rain break and he said he was talking to Notch earlier this week.

2 things he mentioned, Notch not a fan of the pink ball, its not cricket, and he was pretty pissed at the pitches in Brisbane and Perth

If Johnson gets sent in to bat up the order im expecting kiwis to give him a guard of honour and shake his hand..

F**k mate how good were we?! That was one of the best guard of honours we have done.

Well played Mitch. Erratic for 80% of your career mixed in with some unforgettable spells of bowling and over 300 wickets @ under 30 which is a something to be proud of.

Erratic genius is a good way to describe him, when he was on he was unplayable and quite frightening but when he was off he was down right terrible. But add in has batting and fielding he was a damn good cricketer.

When he was on song, he was near unplayable. Sad it didn't happen more, but still an top career

Brought back some of his best today, the one to get Guptil was top notch. Good on him for being able to finish on his terms, didn't think that would happen before his purple patch.

As I said in match thread, similar to Brett Lee - Really good at his best, genuine pace which was good to watch, bad periods were pretty bad. Lee's poor performances really coincided with fitness (basically Ashes 2001 and four years after that, plus his last series) whilst MJ seemed to be susceptible to overthinking, losing his action etc. Couldn't stand him for large part of his career but loved the way he came back in the Ashes/South Africa 2013/14, was brilliant bowling to watch. Though he bowled well after that, ripped in in the UAE without much luck but seemed flat after that, especially after Hughes death.

Not a great, doesn't have the consistency of the top echelon of quicks we've seen, but certainly capable of greatness when on song. Seems a pretty decent bloke as well.

Can't say I always rated him, but FMD an absolute colossus on his day. One of the greatest series of all time in that Ashes in 13/14. Really enjoyed this article on his career-one of the ODI greats in the subcontinent and while everyone brings up his waywardness, was close to the best bowler going around from 2012-15...at least statistically! http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/story/941849.html

2013/2014, he was fair dinkum fearsome. Brought the fast bowler back into vogue is some ways.
