Joint France-Italy bid

Could this ever work? Say, in 2029?

I think the fact that these two nations are almost certain to qualify every WC is already one major advantage, something they should both consider doing in the future.

I'm guessing 2029 will go to Australia if 2021 is in England and 2025 is in the US. Maybe in 2033?

Let's be realistic Italy is pretty much an Australian reserve team.
I think France would be better off trying to be the main host and then playing other games in England.
After taking a risk in North America in 2025 the RLIF will want a money making banker next time out I would assume.

Realism says that 2029 would be back in Aus/NZ. As for 2033 France should be the goal, no reason Italy couldn't have one game if the right offer was there, same with Spain. It would still probably make sense to play England games in England.

As for 2029 a "Pacific World Cup" would be cool. Games in Australia, NZ, PNG, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, maybe Hawaii. Not likely but would be huge for the Pacific Islands.

NZ + Pacific islands would be a good example of a combined bid, with NZ likely to struggle for crowds on a standalone bid. Leave Australia out of it.

Maybe so, not sure we're in a position to host it without Australia at least hosting thier own games yet but it would be something to aim for, in 12 years time though who knows.

I think if we want to be treated like a serious international game we can't keep replying entirely on Aus - especially since we are talking over a decade down the road, 2029 at earliest.

A 16 team Cup has 6 games x4 pools, plus 7 finals for 31 games.

You could have NZ, Samoa, Tonga and Fiji play their 3 each pool games at home.
With the remaining games staged as double headers across NZ.
All finals in NZ - Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin.

I know this goes against my earlier statement of not being a fan of split hosting, but I feel like it fits in this case lol

I think France should be ready to host by 2033. It doesn't have to be a split bid but they could allow England to play their pool games at home (at ambitious venues or you may as well give the games to France) to ensure bigger crowds.

France still have themselves, Australia and New Zealand in terms of marquee teams to sell as drawcards and England will arrive in France for the quarter final stage onwards.

For smaller nations it definitely make sense. None of the Pacific Nations could go it alone, maybe not even NZ, a joint bid would be huge for RL in the region though.

France needs to have at least three, preferably four teams, including Toulouse and Paris, in Super League before they get a World Cup. Only with that club structure and rugby league fan base will a World Cup in France be profitable.

The ideal locations for World Cup games in France would be Paris, Toulouse, Perpignan and Avignon.
