WESTS Tigers are refusing to back down in a tug-of-war with the Broncos for young fullback Jordan Kahu who yesterday led Keebra Park to the Gold Coast School's first Arrive Alive Cup title.
Kahu wants to join the Broncos so he can stay close to his father Dave on the Gold Coast but Wests Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell claimed the Sydney club had an option on his services and expected him to honour the deal and head to them along with prop Isaac Lui and secondrower Ben Murdoch
We're not happy. We've looked after him for two years," said McDonnell.
"We brought him down to our camp and all of a sudden another club wants to come in and take him.
"We have an option on him for next year. We've taken it up and expect him to come down."

Full story here

I've never seen him play- but by all reports this guy is a superstar...

Unfortunately most of these kids are signed up at 15 and 16 and on paper it looks good..a contract with Wests Tigers but in reality they are just restricting their future potential.

Paying them $500 a year for a couple of years and bringing them down to train with the Tigers cubs ..Wow yeah that's really looking after them.

Of course the kid now has 25,000($) reasons to be close to his family....Why would he want to leave and why force him?

Why would you want to sign kids from Queensland. Try going out and signing kids from Wests and actually offering them something worthwhile ..Ohh that's right you can"t Canterbury and Parramatta have already taken the good ones.

As I have said before Warren McDonnell is a d*ckhead, he has no idea about looking after kids and recruitment. ](*,)

Right, Warren's a dick, let's shift Benji back up to QLD.

Your knowledge of junior football is impressive, I will recommend you for the job when McDonnell goes to Newcastle.

JARRYD HAYNE, Israel Folau and Krisnan Inu - the three emerging superstars who grew up together in Minto - are set to be the most sought-after names on the NRL transfer market when clubs can begin negotiating with rival players next week. Sydney Morning Herald : Sport - 12:34 p.m. Wednesday 28th May 2008 EST

Other Eels grand finalists Eric Grothe Jr (Eaglevale-St Andrews Magpies), Taulima Tautai and Brendan Oake all represented St Gregory’s College in the schoolboy ranks. On the other side of the ledger, Storm’s barnstorming backrower Ryan Hoffman (Campbelltown Collegians) also attended St Gregory’s.

Lets hope Jordy stays in QLD and has a good stint with the Broncos.. Hopefully for a little bit longer than his older brother Jared Kahu did.

HUGE potential! :)

Dear Warren,

Do you realise that this kid has FAMILY in Brisbane. You know about FAMILY, you looked after your son's career and finances for far too long.

Why then are you being such an arrogant, insensitive and unrealistic f**king dickhead by trying to drag this boy down here, who clearly wants to stay near his family.

How good will he perform when he misses his family and doesn't want to be here? Is it worth the money you pay him, and is it worth the pain and misery you impose on him.

He's not even f**king 18 yet you dickhead.

For f**k sake, he wants to stay near his family, f**king let him. You win some, and you personally lose a lot. You should be used to it. Why the f**k have you started fighting for players now, you never did in the past, except for your son.

Regards,
madunit.

contracts dont mean much these days mate. i hope it doesnt eventuate but take it as gospel, he is at long odds to be with the club next year.

Contracts mean everything, unless both parties agree to void it, meaning that the Tigers would need to release him....

Why would they agree to do that?

Madunit, ever think that he's looking for some compo from Brisbane? For all you know he wants to let the bloke go. You can't just rollover like that though.

How much would have been spent?

Seriously, sweet f**k all. It doesn't sound anything at all like he wants Brisbane to repay, he sounds like he's going to walk in and rip the kid out of his parents arms and drag him down to Sydney, kicking and screaming.

Typical Sydney big wig not giving a f**k about anyone and bullying some kid around because he can.

You've shown a bunch of examples that are nothing alike and have very little to do with current admin.

Sure, it's probably the most important issue we've got, but it's nowt to do with the recruitment manager and far more to do with the Wests junior league and an entire clubs' attitude and lack of finances.

Maybe your right maybe his not allowed to look for talent.

I am obviously involved with Wests and attend a lot of junior league games.
I see Rod Reddy, I see Peter Mulholland , I seePeter O'Sullivan....very very rarely do I see Warren McDonnell.

My point is we would be better served by someone who was prepared to go look for the next JARRYD HAYNE, Israel Folau and Krisnan Inu in our own backyard not Queensland.

Get in there find these kids before the other clubs do. Its not hard do some research.

So we got Benji Marshall 2003, Rangi Chase 2004, Ben Teo 2005 and now Robert Lui from Keebra. In the meantime St Greg's produces 5 or 6 NRL players each year. That would be my first point of call.

Here is the address Warren in case you dont have it 100 Badgally Rd
Campbelltown NSW 2560.

Holy Cross made the final 8 of Arrive Alive Cup this year 517 Victoria Rd
Ryde NSW 2112

Good luck.

The club has a myriad of scouts as any club does. The recruitment manager acts on advice from those scouts as there prescence sometimes does not aid the process until later in the process

I wouldn't have said so... Having your kid's school fees paid might be huge for some families... But there's probably plenty of other things like medical expenses and enhanced opportunities for sponsorship from local business or whatever as well.

Still, I reckon Uncle Waz should be asking the Nags for a few quiet thousand in compo, giving him a realease and leaving it at that. How we treat our kids today might be a factor when trying to recruit our stars of tomorrow, if you know what I mean.
