Josh Davis: Will he play first grade?

Now that we have confirmation that Josh Davis has signed with the Eels, I pose the question will he play first grade in 2005? I believe that he will. In fact my prediction is that he might have a similar impact to Lyon when he went SG Ball to Flegg to First grade in 2000. From all reports he is a very similar type of player to Lyon. Strong and deceptively quick.

Assuming Tahu is one centre, the other one will probably be Burty to start off with.

Davis is probably gonna have to earn his stripes like the other guys.

Where he ends up depends just on how good he is and I'm looking forward to seeing him play.

Iafeta from the NZ forum reckons that in Davis and Marcus Perenara was have 2 of the brightest Kiwi prospects in years.

well Iosia Soliola, his centre partner for the Junior Kiwi's will play first grade for the Roosters next season I can't see why this kid can't however I do think he needs the first few months to find his feet in the lower grades, if he's good enough he'll find his way!!...or he may be just too good to ignore ie: SBW but that's too big a call.

It's a big call.

I mean, how many of us have seen him play???????????

wouldn't matter how good he was, I wouldn't expect a firstgrade birth before June at the very, very best.

I just hope the selections come down to who is in the best form. It is good to have options though, after injuries and form etc we didn't have much choice in our centres this season.

The two best centres on 2005 form out of Tahu, Burt, Graham, Ben Smith, O'Dwyer, this Josh Davis, Petersen, Grothe or whoever sounds OK to me. Winger and fullback also seem fine. Which leaves the all-important halves [-o<

Great prospect. But it takes time, for the both of them. Marcus has had a bad run with fitness and injuries. He's got a lot of skills, goal kicking, can defend quite well, a decent passing game, and a long kicking game.

Davis is a star out of the Junior Kiwis.

But just remember, if all stars of junior representative footy continued on their merry way, the Warriors would be premiers each and every year. It doesn't necessarily happen. There were mighty wraps on Thomas Leuluai, it turned to custard didn't it? Same with a lot of other junior players going around, looking at the Warriors for instance Vince Mellars had enormous wraps, and he never took advantage of it apart from one game. Evarn Tuimavave is still trying to get up to NRL match fitness. Then again, you might just uncover the most precocious talents in the game - like the Warriors did with Ali Lauitiiti etc.

For all that, I hope it does for the both of them because the Kiwis need a good five eighth (Marcus Perenara was in the halves at Marist Richmond with the man who certainly has the upper hand on that guersney at the moment - Jerome Ropati) and a good centre.

The centre from the Roosters was one the Warriors belatedly made an approach on, too little, too late, but he has extreme ability and leadership attributes. Davis though smoked him as far as wraps out of the recent Junior Kiwis success (which has been pretty good of late). Perenara had huge wraps on him from Daniel Anderson, and would have a sharp footy brain coming from a highly thought of rugby league family in New Zealand.

C'mon Josh! C'mon Marcus! Make your names and claims to the honour of the Kiwis outta good old Parramatta.

Josh will play first grade...but not till later on in the year! If he does live up too his reputation he should be there by round 10 or 11 but if he is just another center like ben smith then we will see him feature when injuries come!

Although the question that should be asked is, will he prosper at center? This will come down to other players around him.....hence if we have a decent half combo then they will provide effective movement of ball to make our centers utalise there ability!

Im not gonna place huge raps on him because his only 17 (i think) and still has alot to learn + we all know what happened to previous talked up players (i.e. Thorman #-o ).....although it would be nice get another top class center after what judas done to us

will be a huge jump in class for a 17 year old who has been playing in the NZ comp. not only playing but training, as well as the adjustments in lifestyle.

i would love for this kid to live up to the hype and make it this year but lets not put to many expectations on him just yet.

Iafeta is obviously only interested in a dynasty of tri nation wins for his beloved Kiwi's :D

I think the 2 mentioned would still be few years away from joining the Wonderboy!! SBW in the national side.
