Josh Davis: Will he play first grade?

We will just have to wait and see and then make judgements for ourselves. Our Premier League side next year will be a very youngside. One thing I can recommened is to get out to the lower Grade games and Watch players such as Jarryd Hayne and Tony Williams go round. That Harold Mathews GF game would have to be one of the best I have ever seen. We have some really good player coming through some real quality.

Ben Smith is a big boy, I'm still undecided about him though. he went really well in the Flegg and Ok in Premier League.

he's extremely erratic as a player definetly still needs some fine tuning but potentially very very good! like Davis, Benny has the potential to terrorise opposition defences but I have seen him terrorise his own team mates with some ordinary performances

Has anyone seen him play?

Davis??

none of us here has, however there's been a number of news paper articles about the kid that was posted some months back, we've also read reports from Carlnz and Iafeta who IMO without pissing in their pockets too much are outstanding judges of talent.

if you read Iafeta's analysis of the game, you can tell he knows his shitt very knowlegable!

Still Ben Smith was quite consistent in premier league. He had a great game and held the team together against the Roosters. Without him the score would have been 70.

Have not seen Davis but the centres is the position where we will really need to develop some young talent. I'd say Round 1-3 Luke Burt then depending on form move Ben Smith/Davis in there. We don't rotate our players as much as we used to.

I have a feeling he may prove some people wrong this year. Keeping in mind this year he will have a full off season.

IMO Brett Delaney and John Williams could be the two likeliest players to fill the no. 3 jersey long term. Williams has been predominately used on the wing in the lower grades however has been moved into centre and fullback as well. Very good goalkicker as well.

Delaney is the real smokey IMO. Strong and quick, defensively he is very sound and he has good hands - similar again IMO to Lyon. While he was used at lock and 5/8 he was moved to the centres when Smith was injured and played well.....

Davis is twelve months away unless he is above and beyond the lower grades.

Smith looked good in the lower grades however his limited opportunities in the top grade didn't impress me after what I had seen in the lower grades. Given time he may develop though he didn't seem to want to use his size - which is his best asset. The jaw injury he suffered was at the wrong time.

Ashley Graham could also be back in contention. By all reports he is training well - something he wasn't able to do last season. I saw a lot in 2003 that suggested he will make a good return in 2005 given a full off season and injury free I think it will come down to he and Delaney.

As usual a good analysis. Davis has a long time ahead of him unless he is simply to good for the lower grades or unless Burt is put into Prems. I dont see Peterson losing his spot. Graham could come good but will haver to earn his spot. How he stayed on the wing this year was a bit of a shame as it did his reputation a lot of harm after a good 2003 season in the fullback. He lost his pace in wing rarely was allowed to get his passing game into the game. Havent seen much of delaney but he sounds the goods. Davis it seems is our best prospect. But thats only hype.

When I read options in the centres like Graham and Ben Smith then I can see just how much up shit creek we are in this position. Combined with Tahu who is a great player but an untried centre, I believe this as our biggest weakness, forget the halves, this is our achilles heel.

Graham just cannot read the play when in defence. Some times he comes up and tackles nobody and leaves a gaping hole. And on top of that He has no speed. If it came down to graham and Burt I'd have to go with burt at least he has speed.

Delaney
B Smith
Davis
Inu
J Williams

A few good prospects.

Williams is a good player. If he hadnt of had that injury he wouldve filled the centre spot taken by Burt.
