Wellington teenagers rewarded

Two Wellington teenagers have been selected for international honours after standout performances in the national rugby league sevens tournament last weekend.
Joshua Davis and Hayden Davis, both 17, will represent New Zealand and the Maori sides respectively in an international sevens tournament in Sydney this weekend. The New Zealand squad was selected based on players' form during the tournament, while the Maori side features several Australian-based players.
The Wellington pair were included in the sides despite Wellington crashing out 12-10 in the quarterfinals to the Central Falcons at North Harbour Stadium.
Wellington coach Paul Bergman said the young side competed well in the 20-team competition – which was won by Hibiscus Coast.
"The boys had a good run and it was a chance for the young blokes to get a bit of experience against older, experienced players." Bergman said.
He praised Joshua and Hayden along with the team's youngest player, 15-year-old Alehana Mara, for exceptional performances.
thedux said:Maybe he won't be over until the serious stuff begins for the younger guys over here. I suppose it's better than just sitting around waiting for the season to start.
thedux said:But the Flegg and PL don't start until about 3-4 weeks after the FG comp kicks-off. The other two sides only play about 6-8 games since they changed the format again. If he is coming this year he still probably has about 2-3 weeks before they start playing trials.
