Promising New South Wales quick Josh Hazlewood has been called into Australia's limited overs side for their tour of England in place of the injured Mitchell Johnson.
Johnson has experienced a flair-up of an elbow infection he first complained of during the Twenty20 World Cup in the Caribbean.

Australia team physio Alex Kountouris says Johnson requires "specialist medical management" and as such will need to stay home in order to be fit for the Test series against Pakistan that follows five one day internationals against England.

Hazlewood, who has long been earmarked as a future international player, played a starring role in Australia's successful Under 19 World Cup campaign in January.

There are numerous theories as to how Johnson's problem arose, varying from boxing drills to the addition of a tattoo.

"Mitchell had an infected right elbow during the ICC Twenty20 World Cup," said Kountouris.

"Since returning to Australia he has had a flare-up of the condition and is currently being treated for it.

"As part of the treatment he requires specialist medical management over the coming weeks and as such he's been ruled out of the six ODIs against Ireland and England.

"It is hoped that he will make a full recovery in time to join the tour and take part in the T20 internationals and the Test series against Pakistan in England, which begin on 5 July."

The unexpected loss of one of the team's key figures caused a rush of activity at Cricket Australia headquarters in Melbourne on Thursday, amid last minute preparations for the trip to England.

Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said Johnson's loss was Hazlewood's gain, as a hugely promising young quick with the height and accuracy suitable to gain life from English pitches.

"The ruling out of Mitchell Johnson from the one-day series is obviously disappointing for Mitchell and the team, but it has created an opportunity," Hilditch said.

"It is indeed a very exciting time for Australian cricket as we continue to take opportunities to expose our talented cricketers to international cricket.

"Josh Hazlewood has been identified as one of a crop of young fast bowlers who the NSP consider can impact for Australia at international level.

"Josh was recently part of the victorious Australia under-19 ICC World Cup squad, has shown great promise in domestic cricket and is currently part of the AIS Scholarship Program at the Cricket Australia Centre Of Excellence in Brisbane.

"The NSP consider he will be well suited to English conditions and this provides a great opportunity for him to be part of the Australian set up on a tour of Ireland and England.

"We are sure if he gets an opportunity he will perform very well."

Good to see him in the squad, I hope he doesn't get a game unless we are short of bowlers though. Good experience for him though..

I'd play him even though hes probably not ready. If he takes some stick we have enough all rounders to cover him, if he fires then we have a World Cup contender.

Good to see him being fast tracked, better bowler already than that Nuffy sh*ttle.

Too early IMO, at 19 a fast bowlers body is generally not ready for the workload of international cricket, and he's already coming off injuries in the latter part of the season. Shedload of talent but he needs to mature in body before he should be considered.

Still, probably wont play a game, so it'll be good experience being over there.

NSW has a pretty good young attack this coming summer, hopefully Copeland continues to impress.

Copeland unlucky not to be in the 4-day squad to start with. they must've missed his 35 wickets in 5 games.

How Starc is there i do not know.
