@Wizardman reminded me to start a thread on this.

Thoughts on the new rules for RL.

No divisions
Only 3 players can play in the same team for the next season, The rest need to be mixed around

No scores kept until u13's

Any score mentioned the club gets a $1500 fine. For example grandma lives away. Asks how x kid is going.
Parent of the kid writes on facebook. They won today the club the kid plays for gets a fine for keeping score

There are so many ills about the state of the way junior rugby league is run in this country.

I had not heard of the $1500 fine about publishing scores on social media. That is absolutely ridiculous......as ridiculous as not keeping scores in itself. EVERY kid and EVERY parent would absolutely be keeping score in an unofficial way.

This was announced in 2022. Junior numbers are up. Perhaps it is working,

They don’t keep score in any kids sports any more.

In soccer if you celebrate a goal by punching the air or doing the Ronaldo dance you have to be substituted off for 5 minutes 🤣

Do they not keep score in kids soccer as well?
St George Football Association I know don't start until U12 when they start playing on full size field. I assume it's a Football Australia or NSW Football directive. But as we all know, the kids know the score and who scored.

This is the 1st year of it in NSW though

The junior numbers have gone up because you are counting women's that there was none.

That also adds League tag too.

The actual tackle RL numbers haven't changed much

That is thing. Kids know, my son loses count but a couple in his team come off the field and can re-count the score. Hence why the $1500 fine is stupid

Soccer in juniors to u12 was like this. They’ve kind of wound it back a bit to u10s in my area now.

Kids def know scores. f**k, my son bats in grade cricket now and knows exactly how many runs he’s scored, has done since minis. They all knew how many goals they’d won or lost by in soccer and in little kids stuff it can be 20 goals sometimes. Sure, it’s about learning, developing, having fun, even mixing teams up to give everyone a go but the kids still count. Had games where they’d scored for both teams lol or got a wicket bowling for other team lol. I get why they do it but to fine people mentioning scores??

U10's is better than RL's u13's

How did it work for elite kids getting into academies?

That is the big issue I see here. The elite kids need to be in the big footy schools.

They shouldn't be held back to keep others playing longer

This is probably the same vein of thinking that had them get rid of the Australian under 15s merit squad which was always a pretty good list to look back on to see who went on to the big time.
I don't even know why they play that under 15s tournament now.

i agree with this. Not keeping score to under 12s is ridiculous. Honestly if kids that age can’t handle losing a game then perhaps sports aren’t for them. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, learning to lose is an important skill in life, even for something trivial like a weekend game of footy.
