Junior Footy farce

Who are these changes for? The kids still very much know who is winning and losing and that’s a big part of the fun. As a kid I was part of both ends of that spectrum and both were fun and different experiences for different reasons. Hell sometimes the teams you played for who were absolute dogshit help you bond together more than the winning teams.

Making the teams change is just sad. It breaks up friendships and bonds and discourages a longer term connection. As a parent it makes it harder to bond with and build a relationship with the other kids playing with your own kid.

I know people will scream ‘woke’ at these changes but as someone who considers themselves very socially progressive I see these changes as regressive and actively harming kids. They’re ill thought through and ineffective.

I asked the same question.

Apparently to keep the weaker kids interested by not having their teams flogged. No one wants to see floggings but I don't want my kid to hold the better kids back.

He should be able to throw a ball around with some mates as some fun all through the grades, let those better kids do their thing in the higher divisions

Depends what you class as woke everyone has a different meaning but yes it seems to be about ensuring the game is for all.

There are touch and Oztag if someone is too small or doesn't enjoy contact, Those very sports aren't suitable for the bigger kids.

I asked the question about Soccer academies because those kids if good are in programs at 10. Going until u13's you have kids who want to and have the talent to go on but won't have anything to take to these RL schools

That’s just the thing. There are plenty of non contact and inclusive sports out there if you’re worried about the physical side of it.

The winning and losing thing is crazy. Not only will kids know anyway but even if they didn’t they’re going to find out eventually. I’d rather than slowly learn that lesson at an age where it doesn’t matter to suddenly become a teenager and not know how to handle losing.

That’s a topic for another thread but woke is a nonsense term that means literally nothing and everything. It’s nothing more than a boogeyman that lets people attack anything they don’t like whilst pretending not to be racist/sexist whatever. Anyone who uses the term unironically isn’t worth listening to. I was only saying it because I see this type of thing that the term ‘woke’ is thrown at.

That is the NRL lately though. They are striving for an audience that likely won't be fans at the expense of the core business.

This is just in line with most of the NRL behaviour in the last 5 years especially

That’s the thing though this doesn’t really seem to target anyone. I just honestly don’t know who this is for. I’m all for maximum inclusiveness but this just seems ludicrous.

They have been trying to get weight groups not age groups for a while. That has met opposition

This would be if scores and results don't matter then coaches won't get big kids running over small kids and gets more kids into the game

Its funny you ask about Soccer academies. Many of those have nothing to do with development or talent. Simply money raising for those running them. The NRL's new "rise" program smacks of the same thing.

No longer will kids be selected to represent their area now its if you pay you can play and if a kid playing in a penrith junior team wants to play in the rise program for the tigers all he has to do is pay $160.

Most are agreed. The soccer program St Doms runs for Man City wouldn't be.

They'd need some way to indentify the talent, these are the issues we will find at the RL schools in coming years
