nothing new here re: playing for points. Gold Coast rugby league hasn't had a scoreboard or finals for kids under 13 in 25 years.
Brisbane around 15-20 years

Everything that has been said about wokeness, pro and con, has been said. If the thought of kids knowing the score and losing a few footy games makes you feel like it will destroy their childhood and scar them forever I can't convince you otherwise. And sadly these types seem to have taken over running the game.

The one way I will be "woke" (I use quotation marks because that word means whatever anyone wants it to mean) is I hate age groups. We need size groups. It is ludicrous that anyone thinks the difference between a 12 year old and a 13 year old mentally is bigger than the difference between a 50kg boy and a 100kg boy.

The Footy Show used to have those "highlights" from kids footy of some monster who would be about a foot taller and countless kilos beefier than every other kid on the park steam rolling everybody for a length of the field try. The hosts seemed to think it was wonderful. The crowd loved it. I always hated it. Allowing kids that far apart physically to be on the same field for a contact sport was doing no favours to the small kids OR the big kid. The small kids weren't learning anything when they were faced with someone just too physically big to be countered. And the big kid was having his development stalled as well because he was not learning any skills.

Kids should be in weight groups until 16. The end.

Being "woke" boils down to "don't be an arsehole". That's it.

"Woke" is just a term dumb frightened people use when they realise the world is bigger and more complicated than their boxed in experience and their little minds can't handle it.

I would say that “woke” is the post-industrial mindset of people who have only experienced a managed world (school, office, cities) and therefore think that EVERYTHING can be managed.

They then complain to the manager the the present reality does not match the detached utopia in their mind and therefore the present is evil and needs to be changed.

the utopia in their mind cannot be challenged meaning any bad result from a bad idea can be pinned on something else becuase utopia cant be wrong

meanwhile, wild and dumb ideas become a status play (poor/weak/vulnerable people cant afford to be dumb/idealistic) so we have a purity spiral or people competing to have the most crazy ideas to prove they can afford it…

So the Karen mums are
- too dumb and detached from reality to realise that lose+winning and getting hurt is importnat for child development
- convinced they are smart enough to engineer a perfect world in their mind without any negative consequences
- determined to use kids football as a platform to prove they are morally superiority to all the other mums

Forgive my cynicism.

The first time I heard the term "woke" was a Ricky gervais roast of all the degenerates at the golden globes. I had to go back a few times to understand what he said because I had never heard that term before.

It was during his joke about Apple, the irony of a multinational company making a show about some injustice in the world while in reality they run sweatshops in China.

Then he unleashed on the crowd, saying they say they're woke but if Isis started a streaming service they would all call their agents.

That's the way he used the term woke.

Still an all time classic, talks about his show Afterlife (a show about a guy whose wife dies of cancer and is suicidal) and ends with “season two is coming so clearly he didn’t kill himself…..but like Jeffrey Epstein” shocked murmurs “I know he was your friend but I don’t care”

Nailed pretty much every single one of them for their hypocrisy.

Haha, easily the most biting joke was his "birdbox" one. A movie about people who survived by pretending they didn't see anything...... kind of like working for Harvey Weinstein. The audience gasped. He said "you all did it, not me, you did it".

Classic.
