The Warriors have made the Grand Final while the Rah Rah World Cup is on in New Zealand. Not only that but also the potential to have all 3 grades on show. Toyota Cup team are there and the Auckland Vulcans playing for a spot in the NSW Cup Grand Final tomorrow.

Also does anybody know if the teams have been back home during the finals? Make more sense to stay in Australia

If anyone with a brain watched last night's match, they would realise that was better than ANY union game of the last say - hundred years.

The RWC could be a blessing in disguise, takes a heap of media 'pressure' off the Warriors.

Very true. And the no-hype entry to Melbourne helped too.
Now how do we get them to the Grand Final without any fuss?

The media totally overhype things. I prefer it to be the true leaguies in on this one, rather than bandwagoners.

I hope there were a few overseas visiting union people who watched that game though and they realised what real sport looks like.

It would be a laugh to see the warriors knock off the GF and the All Blacks to choke again. A few bandwagoners might actually jump out of the All Blacks bus for good.

I imagine the ABs game was far more exciting than the Warriors match.

lol, that's what we'll be hearing this week.

i put it on between the 20s and the nrl kickoff.

it wasn't the worst game of rugby i've seen, but it was still a mess.

When I was in nz couple months ago it seemed like Rugby League was not considered a major sport in NZ its treated just like soccer in australia. Rugby union on the other hand its all over the papers , tv and radio.

I actually went to the tri nations game between aus v nz and wow I must say the NZ supporters are passionate about the game and the all blacks.

Such a shame the warriors will always live in the shadows of union even if they win a premiership.

By the way can you guys fix up public transport to Mt Smart I had to catch a taxi back to cbd cost like 80 bucks as there is no other public transport :(

I think it's a great thing. As someone said, took the pressure off the boys - they played in a city that didn't give a sh*t (AFL finals on) and a nation over here was mostly fixated by rugby.

Headline on the HoS says it all today - 'French Toast' and Warriors 'the icing on the cake'. So a pool win is the main focus, yet making a final is mere icing. Whatever.

Never thought of it like that but now you mentioned it. I'll have a guess at my own question and imply that they have stayed in Oz the whole time too

Just down the highway back to the city.

Got out after the game had no signs to public transport or what ever so had to get a taxi and yeah costs a fair bit back to the city at the crown plaza where I was staying.

They have been coming home.
There was an item on local TV about them flying into Melbourne, Thursday I think, and there being no media or fans there waiting.
Keeping things as normal as possible I think.

Cheers Rich102

Also on the subject of public transport to and from Mt Smart. They were doing track work when I was over there so had to catch the railway bus outside Penrose station. They didn't charge me anything. So got a free ride back to Britmore in the city

Update. They fly back today, arriving at 5.10 PM.
Train tomorrow and head to Sydney Wednesday for GF breakfast on Thursday. (Think of the airpoints.)

heres some news !!

Auckland's Rugby World Cup fan zone will black out next Sunday's Warriors rugby league grand final game with Mayor Len Brown warning of tight contractual arrangements in play.
A capacity crowd at Party Central in downtown Auckland watched last night's All Blacks v France rugby match, but then thousands left to find somewhere to watch the Warriors defeat the Melbourne Storm in a league semi-final.

Here's the scenario as I see it.

The Warriors beat Manly next week and the All Blacks fail to make the ruckheads world cup final.

The citizens are disgusted with this outcome and become even more upset when Australia lift the ruckheads cup. This causes rioting in the streets and Graham Henry and Murray Deaker run off together.

The scene has now been set for a sporting revolt the likes which hasn't been seen in NZ before. Over the next 10-15 years rugby league gains more and more popularity firstly equaling rugby union in popularity then surpassing it. Think positive people:)
