This time it does not concern Raiders management ...

I was at the newsagency on Friday night and noticed that the official AFL draw has been published and released.

My interest in the code has risen of recent times so I pulled the book off the shelf and gave it a read ... it is full of information ....

you can obtain the starting time of every game next season ... further tables by club, by broadcaster, by ground, by city, by you f**king name it

now compare that with the NRL ... err, you can plan ahead for the first five weeks

Piss poor effort NRL and it is about time you advise CH9 that all previous bets are off
... the AFL gives it's fans a better deal.

Agreed, the NRL should have all games decided by now. Fair enough that Channel Nine wants to do it their way so that they can get better ratings (and let's face it, that is why they do it), but they should have to get it right. Things change so much in 5 rounds that the 2 teams who were doing best may have lost 4 out of their last 5 games when they play each other on Friday Night Footy.

CH7 and CH10 have similar probs as do CH9 regarding ratings ... the fact is they are trumping CH9 big time.

It is about time CH9 started giving every club a fair go ... maybe that might get some of those soft supporters reciding in Sydney back to having bums on stadium seats rather than the couch.

btw T_R why not here

Channel 9 is not the powerhouse network it was, and its league interest has plummeted since Kerry Packer kicked the bucket.

The NRL has been pigeon-holed because the last few media deals were forced on us out of the aftermath of Superleague. I have a feeling that it'll be a different story next time around.

Gyngell is big on league too, so I suspect C9 will be almost certainties to renew their contract with the NRL. I just hope they (we) have the balls to broker a decent deal that gives all clubs a fair showing. To have Penrith on FTA so many times last season while the likes of Melbourne, NZ and Nth Qld (not to mention us) regularly missed out was a joke.

I actually agree to the point that the official NRL season preview guides are pretty ordinary. I hope there are more details for each club/player provided this season and particularly some analysis on the 20's comp and the players recruited etc (given we don't have a draft system like the AFL).

I also find it quite strange that people such as Politis can hold positions on the NRL board ... the AFL is a slick professional organisation and if the NRL does not improve its game it will not only be run over by the AFL but also by the A-League.

With Eddie Maguire out of Nine we may have a better shot getting some love back into the broadcaster

I dont understand why a deal cant be done between league and 9 where all games are set down for whichever day they are to be on each year and then 9 can take their pick as to which games they televise hoever many weeks in advance they want and the rest of the games then get placed in the time slots remaining. That way we the fans can make plans well in advance of which games we can go to and just allow for the fact that we dont know exactly what time until 9 makes their picks. This way the most we could get put out is by 2 hours if the game is on a Saturday as it could be at 1730 or 1930. On sundays I believe that 1430 or 1500 really doesnt make any difference at all and both games on Friday get played at the same time. This way channel 9 get their choice we get a lot more certainty and NRL gets our money regardless, everybody wins.
