Just watching super League

Just watched the Wigan/Leeds match on fox and the potential in utilising this competition is enourmous.

I for one would be attempting to set up an affiliation with anyone of the big 4 clubs (Wigan, Leeds, Bradford and Hull) as quickly as i could. I know its easier said than done but it wouldnt be impossible.

The biggest potential benefit is being able to loan a players between each clubs. Of course it would depend on a players willingness and i would mainly only do it with guys under 21. Dobson the Wigan halfback is on loan from Canberra (started the yr in flegg) and also had a stint at Catalans while Stacey Jones was injured. This would be great for players who are inbetween that PL and NRL to go over to England and get some top level experience while not experiencing the intensity each week of the NRL. Another example of this is the Parra player Mateo who was loaned to London last yr and has since come back and been a level above everyone in PL this yr and will be starting lock for Parra next year.

The only other situation i would do it is if we have coaches that dont get along with obviously talented players in the case of Hilder it gives us the opportunity of letting them go to England and still be contracted to us and have access to him in the event of a coaching change etc like the Jamie Lyon situation.
Also players become a bit jaded if they have been at a club a long time. This could allow for players to go to England and come back refreshed and all enthused as most people get after change.

The English have an excellent junior system that would match Australia's. The NRL being the competition it is leads to the difference at a senior level. If you could get access to a promising junior or two through a loan they could really add alot to a Sharks side and there is the chance of inticing them to stay on longer. For example we are short on wingers and cnters at the moment and Wigan's MOM was a 19 yr old centre who has just about been their best all year. Leeds also had a 19yr old winger who scored two tries and runs 5x harder than Simmo would. Obviously im big on Cronulla juniors being given a run but bringing over one pommy kid a yr couldnt hurt.

Obviously there are also other benfits like access to coaches, administrators, marketing benefits in terms of sponsorship and potential english fan base, increased merch sales etc for the club, preseason trials and camps but im too lazy to write about them.

I like your thinking NCL. Too bad this sort of idea is beyond the intellectual capacity of the Pierce family.

I love it Hodgo...

A few change management theories in there as well. Awesome stuff.

Yeah, I don't think our current board is up to something like this though. Too much outside the square.

When we get there though del ;)

That is an excellent idea NCL.

Logistically though it would probably be "too hard" for our club.

Love the way you think though mate.

A little off topic, but does anyone reckon if the sharks played in the ESL they'd have a pretty good chance of winning it? I watch a fair bit of it, the top sides are ok, but the lower sides are pure shyte!

Great idea, but really:
Newtown ties..............crash and burn
Central Coast ties..............about to crash and burn
So really, how would we go?
