Welcome.
With respect, how did you come to the conclusion that both the grounds are in a poor state if you rarely go there?

FTR, with 'modern' stadiums, the Club tried going to the larger venue at Homebush during the failed Right Game Right Venue experiment. For five years, and it almost killed off our travelling fanbase, amongst other things. The Homebush promoters gave away free tickets and the place still looked like a soulless and empty cavern.

One of the reasons they gave for the RGRV debacle was that out of all the Sydney-based clubs, Saints had the 5th largest following in the western suburbs. Think about that.
Hi Willow,
Agree that I'm no Wollongong expert. As I said - I've only been there twice that I can remember to watch a game. Once I sat on the hill, and the other time I was in the Northern grandstand. I also went to a Dragons training day there once. And when I describe both our grounds as poor (and Leichhardt and Campbo), I mean relative to our competitors who have modern purpose built rectangular all seater stadiums (Storm, Cowboys, Titans, Broncs, Easts, Parra, future Penrith, etc). It's actually not a criticism of the JV. Both our grounds have been significantly enhanced over the past 20 years. But they are still substandard relative to our competitors. I went to Homebush a few times for home games and thought it was awful so I'm not advocating that.

I'd prefer we just lock in one ground and make it a modern, mid-size, all seater venue. That won't happen for 6 games, and it would probably never happen at Jubilee anyway because the debate about stadiums in Sydney is now a bit toxic. It might make sense for Wollongong though. Well, it makes as much sense as a new Penrith stadium (other than Penrith being a marginal seat). For the Sydney based fans including me, that future scenario would mean going to other Sydney stadiums to watch the Dragons. For the Wollongong fans, playing more games in a better stadium I think would build more interest in the team down there. Anyway, just my opinion and it probably won't happen in my lifetime. It just struck me as an interesting idea to raise which I think is what these forums are about. And again - I appreciate that there are bigger issues to fix first. Like signing Ben Hunt to play hooker.

I did a tour of SoFi Stadium today - 10 levels with not a poor seat in the house. 70K fully seated with an additional 30K standing if hosting a key game like a Superbowl or College title game. The roof, stadium's foundation shell and stadium building are 3 individual structures that are connected to each other by dampers to defray the effects of Earthquakes. , The wraparound AV screen is 4 storeys high with 80 million pixels. The ground is shared with the RAMS home to one side of the stadium and the Chargers home to the other side of the stadium.
This could provide a blue-print to the creation of a new 25K stadium in southern Sydney. Saints control the facilities on one side while Cronulla control the facilities on the other. This would free up Shark Park for further development - (woulden't they love that)?

We need to restructure again. This time we should:

a. St George Leagues Club should buy Illawarra Leagues Club and all junior clubs.
b. All associated NSW and Juniors League fixtures be played under the Illawarra banner with the main fixtures (NSW Cup and senior games being played at WIN Stadium Woolongong.

All NRL home games except for special games (such as Charity Shield and ANZAC Day Match) are being played at WIN Stadium Kogarah.

Both Stadiums upgraded to 30k seated attendance.

The school at Kogarah being relocated to a new improved facility close by.

Underground parking, train and bus terminal as well as a tunnel connecting the Stadium to the Princess Highway be part of this facility.

A multi Story building to house restaurants, St George Leagues club, to be built by St George Leagues Club.

Yes I know, but unfortunately, it is not up to me. However, if we look around at the most successful clubs these days, they all have great facilities and a good BOD. These are the things missing from SGI and only a restructure can solve the problem.
