Kangaroo train on squad

Get your hand off it mate. You can't seriously believe he'll have any chance to make the Australian side. Who cares if he's been selected to make a "train-on" squad. Remember it's only a train-on squad. Once all the better players finish their seasons he'll be gone & ultimately forgotten. His only chance is a PM XIII & that would be a token selection.

Watch this - I'll say no more

Wow Hayne looks awful in that game. Why was he selected for Australia? Hindy and Mannah also look awful. What's your point Softon?

First point they're not selected to play for Australia. They are only in a "train-on" squad. Australian team for the Tri_nations will be selected after GF obviously. They just need a few guys to train with the real contenders.

Luke Burt's "attempted" tackles on Inglis & Sandow were disgusting. Not worthy of an NRL starting position let alone a Australian "train-on" singlet.

Luke Burt. Please.............

Selectors Name First Group of Players for Train-On Squad

Thursday, 8 September 2011

Eight current or recent Kiwis and an NRL rookie are among the first nine players named today in the national train-on squad to prepare for New Zealand's end of season international programme in October-November.
National selectors Howie Tamati (convener), Stephen Kearney, Tony Iro and Tawera Nikau will add to the squad in the coming weeks as teams are eliminated from the NRL finals.
The first group of nine players covers the eight clubs which failed to make the play-offs - Canterbury-Bankstown, South Sydney, the Sydney Roosters, Penrith, Cronulla, Parramatta, Canberra and Gold Coast.
Included along with experienced internationals like Jeremy Smith, Sam Perrett, Frank Pritchard and Issac Luke is 19-year-old Canberra back rower Josh Papalii. Born in Auckland and raised in Queensland, Papalii started the season playing in the NYC - and is still eligible for the competition next year - but finished it by making 14 NRL appearances for the Raiders.
Sydney Roosters centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall (groin) and Canterbury-Bankstown forward Greg Eastwood (wrist) were ruled out with injuries while Roosters forward Frank-Paul Nuuausala is due to have off-season surgery.
The Kiwis assemble soon after the NRL grand final to travel to Rarotonga to play a one-off Test against the Cook Islands on Thursday, October 6. The Sir Peter Leitch QSM Challenge Trophy will be at stake in the first Test the Kiwis have ever played in the Cook Islands.
They then fly to Sydney en route to Newcastle for the Bill Kelly Cup Trans-Tasman Test against the Kangaroos at Ausgrid Stadium on October 16 before heading to the United Kingdom for the 2011 Four Nations. The World Cup holders and 2010 Four Nations champions meet Australia in Warrington on October 28, Wales at Wembley in London on November 5 and England in Hull on November 12. The top two sides in the competition clash in the final at Elland Road in Leeds on November 19.

2011 KIWIS - TRAIN-ON SQUAD
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs: Frank Pritchard.
Canberra Raiders: Bronson Harrison, Josh Papalii.
Cronulla Sharks: Jeremy Smith.
ParramattaEels: Fuifui Moimoi.
Penrith Panthers: Sam McKendry.
South Sydney Rabbitohs: Issac Luke.
Sydney Roosters: Sam Perrett, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

Jarryd Hayne has been ruled out of Australia's upcoming Four Nations campaign with the Parramatta star to undergo intensive treatment on a groin injury.
Hayne was one of four players - along with departing Penrith skipper Petero Civoniceva, Gold Coast's Ashley Harrison and Titans-bound centre Jamal Idris - to be withdrawn from the Kangaroos train-on squad on Monday.
Eels five-eighth/fullback Hayne was expected to be included in the final squad, where his utility value would no doubt have come in handy for Test coach Tim Sheens.

He is not expected to undergo surgery, with Eels officials hopeful of having him fully fit ahead of pre-season training.
Civoniceva tore a pectoral muscle in his Panthers finale while Idris - who played in Australia's mid-year Test win over New Zealand - was unavailable due to wrist surgery ahead of his move from Canterbury to the Gold Coast.
Titans backrower Harrison's season ended prematurely when he hyper-extended his elbow against Brisbane in round 19, but ensuing shoulder surgery prior to the final round of the NRL regular season put paid to his green and gold bid.
Eight players were on Monday added to the train-on squad from which the Four Nations touring party to the United Kingdom and a Prime Minister's XIII to take on Papua New Guinea in Lae will be chosen.
As expected there were call-ups for likely Four Nations participants Kurt Gidley and Newcastle's Akuila Uate as well as North Queensland duo Matthew Scott and Johnathan Thurston, with those two sides having bowed out of the NRL finals over the weekend.
Also added to the squad were Knights forwards Chris Houston and Neville Costigan plus Cowboys duo Matt Bowen and Willie Tonga.
The squad will gather in Sydney on Thursday for a training session.

He'd go on tour, but would not make the 1st choice 17 anyway me thinks.

Gidley will be the 14, no doubt. However, I wouldn't rule out Burt being given a crack at 14 for the PNG game and, if he shows enough, maybe being given a slight chance to be added as a back-up utility for the Four Nations.

Slim chance, sure, but with HaHa out (who could cover 1-6) then that slim chance has just increased ever so slightly.

hayne being out may be a blessing in disguise it will give him a chance to get to know sandow instead of going off playing rep footy half the preseason

I didn't expect Hayne to make the top 17/squad, as first choice winger or a back-up fullback.

Glad that he gets the chance to have surgery if he needs it instead. Get well soon in time for 2012 Jarryd.

Ah, bugger.

Glad he gets the chance to have "intensive treatment" on his groin then instead.
