Team forum is saying he's off to Canberra.

I don't think he's going anywhere, at least until the end of next season. Shopping himself for when his contract expires in 2016.

After reading how Penrith are treating Soward I reckon contracts should only contain clauses saying that the player cannot in anyway, by his actions, bring the NRL or the club into disrepute. If a player is being pursued by another club he should be able to go. Time limits in contract are meaningless. Clubs will ditch a player if someone better comes along therefore so should the player.

That's not how contracts work. Contracts can only be broken upon mutual consent. Even when players get shopped off to other clubs they have to agree to it.

SHOOSH
We’re hearing Marty Taupau has actually signed a contract with the Manly Sea Eagles for 2017 and beyond but is desperately trying to get an immediate release for next year.

This is a shame because even the NRL would do a better job of running the Wests Tigers than the current management.
Weekend reports that personality player Marty Taupau wants out is the latest of a series of blows that proves the administration is not up to the standards required.
The fact they are still supporting coach Jason Taylor when it is so obvious he is the main cause of their problems is bordering on a scandal.

This is really tough. Obviously Taylor is a complete moron who is killing our club. The thing is do you sack him now with 2 years left on his contract.

Lets see what happens with Taupau but we need players like Taupau desperately.

Are you serious? You're prepared for the club to pay $600-$700K a year for a 40 min player when we have an ineffective pack?

I like the bloke, he's good at what he does, but no f**king way is he worth the coin that is reported. This is how we end up in salary cap shitfights all the f**king time.

#ClubInCrisis.

I think that Tapau checked out a long time ago. That is what losing does to a player. To come from the Bulldogs system where, at least in recent years, shit is done right and to go to the tigers with rookie halves, a new coach, new administration and a losing culture it would make any decent player want out.

You need Tapau. Your halves are in need of every chance to play off the back of momentum and like it or not he provides it. Once you start winning games you will see the value in players like Tapau.

"If anything goes bad, I did it. If anything goes semi-good, we did it. If anything goes really good, then you did it. That's all it takes to get people to win football games for you."

On his day Marty is awesome. Problem is his days are few and far between for a bloke wanting 600 - 700k, especially when he would be needed to play more minutes next year.

My two cents:

- Marty was signed by Potter, who believed in him and brought him into FG
- Potter got dumped because of bullshit drama, reasons a-z
- New coach moves Taupau to 13 to play longer minutes.
- Team performance go from bad to worse. Marty is one of the best players but team still struggling.
- Taupau starts to question whether he would be better off at a different club
- Taupau up for new contract
- Offers from teams where he knows he will take his game to next level
- having no real loyalty to Wests Tigers (they dumped the man who brought him in) and with all the bs that goes on...why stay?

I'd love him to stay but I'll be surprised if he does tbh.

If 2016 is his last year, move him back to the bench. He might not like it but it will benefit the team MUCH MUCH more with his impact. Imagine, he will be sitting there all pissed off, wanting to kill someone. Woods comes off then KAPOW!

We don't need Taupau if he won't put in, nor for $600-$700K a season. We're in a salary cap mess because we've long paid overs for players.

We should definitely not over pay. I totally agree with that. In stating that we have a pack of forwards that really need a player like Taupua to give them some impact.

I don't believe our pack is that bad. Woods is up there with the best props in the game, Ava is a great player, Taupau gives that impact, Lawrence seems to be doing well in the backrow, Sue is a decent player, Halatau is really good and Sironen may come on. Its not a bad set of forwards. If we lose Taupau though we lose our best impact forward.

Who knows what he is being offered. I do agree that we shouldn't pay overs. When Taupua is playing well though he wins us games.

I think though him and Woods underperformed this year.

I know Taupau wants to start games and it could be enough for him to look elsewhere if the Tigers move him back to the bench but in saying that, I really believe he plays his best off the bench. When he comes on against tired forwards or second string forwards he is quite devestating.

I think that when he does the initial hard work he gets too knocked up....let him rip and tear off the bench and he might get back to his best.

I like what you say Brother Jim....let Taupau sit there getting angry and then release him. Does his best work that way. Other alternative is bring his parents out each week. He had his best game when his parents flew across the ditch to watch him play.

The issue I see is that you'll always be paying overs so long as your club is in a messy state. No one here is privy to the make up of those reported figures but a player like Tapau puts bums on seats, kids want to watch him, players want to play with him.

You have a solid pack and I consider a rugby league forward pack to be a team in a team so to speak. They are a unit which works together and needs time to gel and develop a culture, an edict that is unique to the Wests Tigers. Tapau, woods, sue and Lawrence should be the blocks to which you build a successful team around. Losing Tapau would set your team back as he is a quality player and would be hard to replace. If he stays it will give you guys stability and motivation to do well next year.

Unlike the opinion of that dickhead rothfield I think the Tigers can be a force but you need stability.

I wonder if he was at another club whether he would tolerate being on the bench. E.g. If he was playing under Bennet and he was needed to play off bench, would he complain?

Has he complained ? Has he even be moved to the bench ? We don't even know if he has signed with another club.

If I can chip my 2 cents in, I completely agree with this post.

I have been using this in our forum (Sharks) in the Bird thread. People wanting to give him 700k because Manly are offering him it.

Bird isn't worth it, neither is Taupau. 700k is elite money. Neither are elite footballers.

Offering big money to players who are not worth it, gets you in cap strife. Hopefully you guys pull through. If players don't want to stay and play for the jersey, let them walk.
