Hearing some good things about this kid's potential from people within the club. Scouted from QLD it's good to see the club looking far and beyond for genuine quality juniors.

He is a centre that toured with last years Australian schoolboys squad.

Watch this space as this kid CAN play

I had a few beers with that scout the other day.

We have 5 kids from Oz schoolboys.

Most - if not all - living in Qld. All on scholarships.

He brought a bunch of them down from Qld and they trained with the first grade.
John morris, luke Lewis and Ennis spoke to them.

They put together a side from the guys he took down and our young 17/18 yr olds and played some Polynesian touring side.

Poly boys were huge - and older -I think.

Our youngens towelled them up 42 - 0.

Yeah I know Keenan and Josh Tuilagi are down here living in Sydney now and ready to rocknroll for 2015.

If sg ball is under 18's he will probably start the year there but based purely on potential and the wraps some people have on him there is no doubt he will be a permanent player in NYC.

Most on here know how critical I have been on the club in recent years for the lack of recruitment at grass roots level. I take my hat off to all those involved for getting young kids like Keenan who are genuine junior guns. The only issue is obviously clubs like the Broncos luring them back in a couple of years.

Geez if this backline can appear on paper in a couple of years we might have something to look forward to:

1. Holmes
2. Addo-Carr/Tuilagi
3. Issaka
4. Yorston
5. Xerri
6. Barba
7. DCE:shock:

I like the fact that not only Yorston is an oz schoolboy but thrown in our local juniors Nisbet, Brailey, Walker and Tracey who were also selected on that tour and QLD rep Tuilagi and its a position the club has not been in since I can remember.

I'm not expecting everyone of these guys to be "superstar" material but if they all come good then happy days

This is an area we have lacked in for years. Especially QLD kids. Take out Holmes who was the last guy we nabbed from QLD. Bukuya? Before that... Beattie?

Another thing about bringing kids through is they tend to stick together. Look at the Storm players who came through together, Manlys core, Tigers current crop.

Kids with ability usually match that with a dream to play NRL.

It all comes down to finding them first & providing a path to make the dream real.

Seems we are finally coming good in this area.

Let me say that as a parent of one of the qld boys that came down for the pathways camp he had a ball, and can't wait to head down when if he finishes school. The boys bonded pretty quickly and I don't get a sense that the kids are thinking I can't wait to get through sharks development so I can play for the broncos. Can't speak for them all, but def mine not thinking that way.

Are you THE John Plath? 4 premierships with the Broncos John Plath?

Mate of Danny Lee, Les Davidson and Sean Ryan?

Hi Johnny, thanks for checking in here & providing that info. As a long suffering Sharks fan, it is refreshing to hear my club finally getting it's act together with juniors...from local & remote.

Good luck with your young bloke's Rugby League career...make sure he does well at school first though as a RL career won't go on forever.

Hope he becomes a star at our club!

cheers, thanks for the kind words. Long way to go for him, but you've got to be in it to win it so he's going hard. Have a soft spot for sharks, so I'd be stoked to see him go well there.

Frenzy, not THE johnny plath, just an old admirer

You're right, SK. Look at some of our teams from the 70's & 90's. A few blokes come through the ranks together and the results are on the board.

Bump

This is the thread I was thinking about with the young guys coming down from Qld to trial / train / play with the sharks.

Johnny Plath, you out there?
How's be young bloke going, I assume he's not in the current squad if he has to finish school?

Yes still floating around.. He's going good, his team is playing semi-finals in Cyrill Connel Cup (H Matthews equiv). Don't want to get too excited and put horse before cart but right in running for U16 Qld team, fingers crossed. Also picked in his region open age (u18s) school boys team for Qld championship. long way to go though, he's also pretty keen to move things along and head down next year, a year early. Have to see how that pans out, but still keen as ever. Good to see both under age teams still going strong too.

Cheers Johnny. Thanks for the update.

Do they get to play a curtainraiser to a SOO game? That would be a wonderful experience & honour!

What town are you / him from mate...or is he a city boy?

Not sure about soo but junior rep finals up here are curtain raisers for Qld nsw residents match in a couple of weeks. Tbh nervous to reveal too much with footy community politics quite nasty but we're on a coast near Brisbane. Patience is tough for young fella keen as for everything to happen.
