Wests Tigers release Keith Galloway to join Super League club Leeds Rhinos

Wests Tigers have released former Test prop Keith Galloway from the final year of his contract to join Super League club Leeds.

Galloway has signed a three-year deal with the Rhinos and the Tigers announced after Friday night's 33-8 loss to Sydney Roosters that he would be leaving at the conclusion of his 10th season with the joint venture club.

The 29-year-old also spent three seasons with Cronulla and has played 204 NRL games since making his debut for the Sharks while still at school.

"Keith has become not only a favourite amongst our fans - but also with our playing group and staff during his time at the club," Tigers coach Jason Taylor said. "Since I started at Wests Tigers last year, Keith has been the ultimate professional in every aspect.

"Keith has been offered a great opportunity to play overseas and we are all really excited for him."

While a loss for the Tigers, Galloway's departure will help ease the club's salary cap burden that has prevented Taylor from negotiating with players to join the club in 2016.

Goalkicking winger Pat Richards is also heading to Super League next year to play for Catalans.

Wests Tigers Interim CEO Phil Moss echoed Taylor's praise for Galloway.

"I would like to thank Keith for his tireless services for Wests Tigers - both on and off the field," he said. "As we all know Keith has achieved plenty in the game, but I also want to acknowledge some great work in the community he has done over the years.

"The opportunity with Leeds is a good one for himself and his young family; we wish Keith all the best once he departs at season's end."

Galloway represented both Australia and New South Wales during the 2011 season, as well as making three appearances for City Origin during his time with Wests Tigers.

Awesome, now we can use his money to re-sign Moltzen, or maybe even give a much deserved upgrade to Moses and Brooks' contracts.

Hahah I'm jk, we won't be using the money for anything

Now that the game is about ruck speed in the forwards, Keithy is not first grade standard. He can make good yardage, but he is far too slow off the ground. It's still sad to see him go because he busts his backside for the club every week, but I feel now Woods, Sue, Ava and Lodge are all much better front row options.

I'm still confused why Sue is in the front row. He seems a bit small for front row, and was doing really well in 2nd row at the start of the year.

He still has a year left on his contract. Being a West Tigers contract that means 150% of his salary will be counted on our cap in 16.

100% agree. Imagine if we played Sue and Taupau as second rowers. Move Siro to lock and start Ava with Woods.

What great news.

As Marshal Magic said, Woods, Ava, Sue and Lodge are better options. Forget the name of the position, i.e. Prop or front row, these are the guys who offer more in the middle doing the grunt work in both defence and attack.

But where is Lodge? And what has happened to Sitaleki Akauola who was 'good enough' to play 1st grade last year?

Now looking at the NSW Cup team this weekend, I assume there are a few more guys from the NRL squad who will be going to save some $$$$$'s. The No 1 being first on the list.

1. Tim Moltzen 2. Delouise Hoeter 3. Nathan Milone 4. Chance Peni 5. Kurtis Rowe 6. Penani Manumalealii 7. Josh Drinkwater 8. Hala Masila 9. Joel Luani 10. Michael Bullock 11. Lamar Liolevave 12. Asipeli Fine 13. Brenden Santi
Interchange: 14. Jarred Farlow 15. Andy Fiagatusa 16. Sitaleki Akauola 17. John Sila
