KEN ARTHURSON RETIRES AND LEAVES MASSIVE BENEFIT TO LEAGUES AND FOOTBALL CLUBS FOR BRIGHT FUTURE
Manly's Godfather Ken Arthurson announced his retirement from the Manly Leagues Club chairmanship today and also unveiled plans for a building project which will ensure to financial future of the Leagues and Football clubs.


Arthurson chaired his final Leagues Club Board meeting early today (October 25) and then held a well attended media conference to announce massive new plans for the Leagues Club.


Mr.Arthurson showed the media plans for the current car parking area opposite the existing Leagues Club site in Federal Parade which allows development for more than 100 apartments.


The plan is to sell the land to a property developer without diminishing the current number of car park spots for club members.


Mr.Arthurson said the site would enchance Brookvale in the future.The proposal is ready to present to Warringah Council and tenders have been called for from October 16 to purchase and develop the site.


"The model on display is a potential development of the site and may or not be the choice of the Board after all tenders are received,"he said.


Mr.Arthurson said the Board of the Leagues Club was eager to find ways of producing finance to enable the future development of the club and to ensure future probogations are met for the Sea Eagles.


"We believe this can help eliminate the problems that will exist with the increased poker machine tax.


"I am proud of the foresight shown by the Board and its desire to ensure to financial future of the licenced and football clubs.


"It is a brave but sound business orientated approach - something Manly has never been afraid to pursue,"Mr.Arthurson said.


Arthurson has served 40 consecutive years on the Board of the Manly Leagues Club - the last 31 as chairman.


He is confident he is leaving the club in good hands.


"The current Board is outstanding and in Paul Cummings we have the right man with a superb business background to take us into a bright new era.


"I couldn't be happier in terms of the people now shaping the future of Manly as a licenced club and as a football club.


"I have enjoyed every moment at Manly - it is always going to be near to my heart and I will never be anything other than a passionate Manly man.


"I have given a lifetime to the club and I intend to enjoy many successful days ahead cheering on the team,"Arthurson said.


Paul Cummings will step up from deputy chairman of the Leagues Club to the position of chairman and continue as executive director of the Sea Eagles.


Mr.Cummings paid tribute to the work Mr.Arthurson had done in his lifetime of service to the Leagues and Football clubs.


"His efforts will be documented in the history of both clubs and the manner in which he raised the profile and performance of Manly in the sporting world is legendary.
"He is regarded as one of the greatest administrators of the modern eras - and with good reason,"Cummings said.
