Is Ben a good buy?

BEN Kennedy can be difficult to deal with. He can be surly and hates the media.
But he is a proven winner. A hard man. Angry. A player Manly desperately need.
Opposition sides respect the Sea Eagles as a team but deep down think their forward pack can lack aggression. Kennedy is the man to turn Manly into a premeirship force.
He has injury concerns, there is no doubt, but given a strong off-season he should explode into action at Brookvale in 2005.
He is Manly's most significant signing in a decade. Kennedy will give Manly the grunt they crave.

YES, Ben Kennedy is among the fiercest elite forwards in the NRL but, no, he is not a good buy for Manly.
He has spent more time in hospital beds than playing for Newcastle over the past three seasons. He managed 13 games out of 25 in 2003 and 11 out of 26 in 2002. And he'll be 31 before a ball is kicked next season.
Rather than splurging on him, Manly should look to lure Jason Ryles, Mark Riddell or Brent Kite from St George Illawarra. Penrith's Frank Pritchard would be another good buy.
Newcastle got a premiership out of Kennedy. Manly won't. It's a waste of money
