Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

Exactly,… it doesn’t matter how cashed up the NFL or ARU are, neither of them will make a dent. NFL because they don’t need to (and have very limited positions and therefore squad spaces they’d be willing to sacrifice for an ex-NRL player gamble), and ARU because the game is crap, and even if that wasn’t a problem, they’ve simply not got enough top teams to create enough available positions for them take large numbers of NRL players.

The nrl is in a good spot here.

Most international players start on the practice squad in the nfl, so will have to earn less than they would in the nrl to try to make the top 53 on a nfl team.

Is ok for nobodies like the guy at the Eagles because he was making diddly in the nrl. But someone like val Holmes, even if he made the team he would be starting at around $600k usd per year before he could cash in 3 years later. If he becomes great in that game. Imagine how bad his salary would be on the practice squad. That's why he came straight back.

With the nrl salary cap set to increase greatly with the new TV deal in a few years the nrl doesn't have anything to worry about.
