When will the likes of Proctor get a go at the top level to those who watch these kids on a consistent basis.

He sounds like an awesome prospect and one of the best young backrow prospects in the country.

Could he get a spot next year possibly?

He's still schooling apparently and hasn't even played QLD Cup this year. Would be a massive step up to go from school rugby to NRL within a year. We might need to be patient, but from what I've heard he could be well worth the wait.

Wasn't Kevin Proctor one of the players traded to the Titans last year as compo for Storm keeping Turner?

Lol hell no, Lestar. Peter O'Sullivan had a heart attack at the media at the thought when it was speculated saying something along the lines of "I've been following this kid for a while and we're not releasing him".

I bet Gold Coast would love to get their hands on him, though. :D

We traded Samau and some other kid.

Thanks for the great info Sharkie.

Sounds like he'll be ready in 2 years to take over from the likes of DJ and Michael Crocker who I doubt will be re-signed once their current contracts run out. I think both have 2 years to go after this year. No wonder there was no gnashing of teeth when Joel Thompson left.

I think we need to build a shrine to P'O'S.

Why do you think DJ won't be re-signed? Salary cap issues?

Is he a Victorian?

When will the first Victorian play 1sts?

IMHO once victorians are playing for the Storm the support will grow enormously.

weather we believe it or not the salary cap will bite us hard in coming seasons, i think our priority should be to tie up the young starts and go from there, priority signings: slater, turner, folau, inglis, cronk, smith, white, hoffman and johnson, 9 of 17 to build our base core around, the rest if were lucky we hang onto some players like lima, j.smith etc, if not, young players on cheap contracts like tagataese and proctor can fill the void in my personal opinion

Most definatley.

Dallas will be rising 28 when his current contract runs out and how much do you think he will have left in his body. I also re-call him saying when he re-signed that he would like to go back to Queensland to finish off his football career. Hell they werent to sorry to see Matt King go so I dont think theyll break the bank to keep DJ.

Waldron has spoken about how he uses his matrix model when deciding the future contracts of players, about how under the current salary-cap you need a stable of Stars along with young players and older vets looking for a second chance to stay competitve. I dont think Crocker or DJ fit the bill of some-one essential to the continuing success of the Storm (though I do think with his family down here Crocker would take less to stay).

This is my list in order of importance to the future success of the Storm, or basically the order in which I would sign them if they were all off contract.

1. Greg Inglis
2. Cameron Smith
3. Israel Folau
4. Adam Blair
5. Billy Slater
5. Cooper Cronk
6. Ryan Hoffman
7. Brett White
8. Antonio Kaufusi
9. Mick Crocker
10. Dallas Johnson

Then lets not forget the young players like Sam Joe, Kevin Proctor, Aiden Tolman, Liam Foran, Will Chambers, Sam T, Sika Manu etc who all will need pay rises in coming years if we want them to stay.

By the time you get down to signing Ryan Hoffman e.g you dont have the $250,000-$300,000 lying around to keep DJ, especially if you think Sam Joe or Kevin Proctor or Aiden Tolman is going to be a star.

Yeah that's fair enough. I wasn't questioning or disagreeing he wouldn't leave i was just interested in your reason that's all.

While it's inevitable we'll lose some players due to salary cap restrictions, it doesn't necessarily mean it has to see us have some huge fall and take years to rebuild like some have predicted. The only way to counter the loss of players therefore minimising the affects of the cap is to steadily bring through our young blokes one or two at a time so we won't feel the affects as much when someone leaves.

Kingy going is a perfect example of that. While it could have left a huge hole in our lineup next year his loss will be very much offset by other options we have (Will Chambers coming in for example) As long as we can keep nurturing these kids and bringing them through at a steady rate as we have been then the cap doesn't have to have as much of an impact on us as what it has on some other clubs. That's where i think Waldron's matrix system could prove to be an invaluable tool in helping us sustain a certain level of success.

Fair point you make their Noa. Just on DJ too he's the type of player every team loves to have, but he isn't necessarily a player to build a team around. There will definatly be someone else who can do his job, where as someone like Greg Inglis, well these guys only come around every so often.

You know he's not a victorian, so why bother asking?

Doubt it.

A more Professional approach by the NRL to the games standing as a first rate sporting code in terms of coverage and promotion would do wonders though.

There will be 5 Vics playing in the U/20 squad next year, wether theyve had the proper skills training for long enough to be real chances of making it is questionable.

But give it another 3-5 years and you'll see plenty of Vic kids coming through the ranks. There are certainly plenty of Pacific Islander kids down here, it has just been a case of giving them a pathway into the NRL and teaching them the right skills from a young age.

Good to hear.

Seriously, I can see a news report on the 6pm news.

"Victorian Rugby League star................."

A story that would not be run if he was a Qlder etc.

There has to be kids with no necks who are no use to the AFL

Now the reason I posted that here was this name was similar

Cronulla signing Kieran Turner, who kicked nine-from-nine against Burleigh in Round 20.

Is the guy.
