Newcastle Knights captain Kurt Gidley will be sidelined for approximately six weeks after a specialist confirmed a ligament tear in his foot on Tuesday.
“The ligament Kurt has injured affects the structural stability of his foot,” Physiotherapist Phil Coles said.
“He will need to be non-weight bearing for a number of weeks and that means we expect him to be out for at least six weeks."
Gidley was named in the NSW State of Origin team on Sunday and flew back from New Zealand to join the team in Coogee on Monday morning before being ruled out on Monday evening.
Meanwhile Aku Uate’s scans on Tuesday confirmed a rib cartilage injury, who wasn’t named to play this week against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
“We have ruled Aku out this week and we will see how he recovers over the next week before we determine when he will be back,” Coles added.
