Yeh, but it also had a bit to do with his ‘combination’ with Sterling, whereas Lewis and Mortimer who were the incumbent halve combination wasn’t quite syncing…Brett Kenny should be an immortal
No question.
Push the original king aside ( and he accepted it) on a kangaroo tour.
He is an immortal in my eyes and I’m born a dragon
Correct we would all be pissed off if we took Gutho on with susceptible injuries, we are offering 3 years and primarily we massively need him in his first 2 years on the field not sitting out on the sidelines. We are already talking about managing his games, when was the last time we were in a position to manage anyone's game. We are paying nearly a million bucks, we dont need a lemon. Yes im not questioning his courage or being a warrior, but not to our detriment. So I'm happy to be absolutely sure and possibly even hear we are not taking him on.Delay is due to physical, Dragons spooked by Volkman experience.
I do think the offer was for 3 years with some conjecture over the 3rd. Plus we are taking him on at full freight, correct me if I'm mistaken at $850k-$950k, so we want to be bloody sure.I’m not fussed either way about Gutherson.
Eels don’t want him at big $$$ now because he probably carrying chronic injuries. At his best Gutherson was a good class player; fringe SOO player if the best players not available.
All this need experience talk etc? OK maybe but heard that all before, but Panthers have been winning with young fabulous players. That is their system. Hope Gutherson not 3 years nor anything over $750k a season. He is a good player but no more.
Exactly. But we would pay him a big salary only for 2025. For 2026 his pay would not be over $500k.We are paying nearly a million bucks, we dont need a lemon.
I dont know about that, I did hear it was full freight for 2 years and reduced in the 3rd, which they had some issues with. Regardless of what we pay him, we need him playing not recuperating.Exactly. But we would pay him a big salary only for 2025. For 2026 his pay would not be over $500k.
Full freight for 2 years? The full freight for 2026 is currently $0....he only has 1 more year under contract with Eels, I believe, for $850k. Hence why he was looking around for a longer deal because Ryles told him not in his plans after 2025I dont know about that, I did hear it was full freight for 2 years and reduced in the 3rd, which they had some issues with. This is also my view. I always ask the same question: is anyone else chasing him? He can get his $850k next year guaranteed just by staying at Parra. Buy why would we pay above market value for him in 2026, much less 2026-27, when no one else wants him?Full freight for 2 years? As I said I dont know, I do remember reading about full freight for 2 years and a reduced amount for the 3rd. His management originally had issues with that. But who would really know and I am always happy to be corrected.Full freight for 2 years? Yes correct, still very good mind you but we may have got him on the downcurve & perhaps his heart wasn’t all in it. Showed his love for the Sharks by going back for one last season when he probably should have retired.I heard he was brilliant for Cronulla. But not for the dragons. Is that correct?
Sludge went back to the Sharks and Jack Gibson was basing all the play around him.Yes correct, still very good mind you but we may have got him on the downcurve & perhaps his heart wasn’t all in it. And injuries were much more devastating back in those days before keyhole surgeries, computerized camera tech, laser scalpels, etc. I don't see how he was able to come back at all. Very tough.Sludge went back to the Sharks and Jack Gibson was basing all the play around him.
I watched the trials and first game they played and he was killing it.
Then Mark Bugden came along and put him out of the game altogether, smashing his jaw into oblivion.
Steve then went and signed with Widnes where he broke his leg first game, out for the season.
He then agreed to terms to play with the Steelers but in the end he realised his time was up.
He is my favourite player of all time. I even used to go to Jubilee to watch him play when he was with you guys.
I remember him coming back through 3rd grade and absolutely demolished the opposition, they were going to pick him in City Firsts, all he had to do was get through the game.
He tore his hammy in the last 5 mins.
