Can you imagine what they'd be saying if Smith signed Reynoldson for $200,000 k a season?
The player signed a contract for next season which is contingent upon certain conditions. Those conditions have not been met, obviously because the club does not want to meet the future obligations (and I think everyone understands why).
This should be a lessent to players and managers - if you want contractual certainty, don't sign a contingent contract.
The guy has been on an unbelievably good wicket and is using public sympathy to pressur ehis selection and trigger the contract ofr next year - because he knows he won;t be getting anywhere near that money in the NRL in future, and he shouldn't have been getting what he has been on.
It's also a warning to clubs not to pay overs for melbourne players. They have an awesome structure which allows all players to play to the very best of their ability. Reynoldson and Orford are two players who come to mind who were world beaters at Melbourne and so-so after going elsewhere.
