the game between workington town and their nearest neighbours whitehaven was a win for town.haven, who just missed out on super league last season were very poor.led by skipper aaron lester at nine, lost there way in the game in the first twenty.fatialofa put in some strong drives but soon tired.the town pack started to push on the haven forwards and were soon bossing the front row,led by taani lavulavu who was very impressive, and the young boy tuimaluga from the wellinton club, and the irrepressive jonnny limmer.a very good player jonny limmer,he is plying his trade at nine for workington, but his good friend rob henare tells me he is normally at thirteen for his non stop running.ross martin likes to keep in touch with lusi sione, this guy is an enigma,he played at six in the game but normally he has been at full back.he is certainly a joy to watch when in full flight.with a few new guys in the camp, town certainly gave the mighty haven something to think about for the next time these two meet.the score was 28-8 to workington town.GED STOKES the town boss, was a very proud and elated boss after the game,he has worked so hard for this result.he was the first onto the field at the final whistle, and all his kiwi boys were delighted for him and the club.

What troutmaster fails to say is they beat a under strengh Haven side.
They beat a decent Haven side but not a full strengh side.
This was Towns final and fair play to them they had the upper hand but it is not as clear as trouty says.
JT was awesome but the others in the Town pack were ordinary, Haven were totally sh1t and were rightly beat but HOPEFULLY that will change in the reverse fixture.

hya mate, sent you a posting on your new site.spot on marra,i hope town can emulate what haven have done.keith will be in his glory now there is no foul mouthed idiots allowed on the site.skinner doe's the same on here.good banter never hurt anyone, but some of the things on both of our other sites was disgraceful.good win for town today,54.12 at barrow.and the kiwis were at the front again.lusi sionne with a brace, and jonny limmer also with 2 tries.and the new boy tanni lavulavu came on for the last ten due to him recovering from tonsilitis.bummer mate.and whitehavens game at gateshead was called off due to waterlogged ground. :f:

No doubt a few more of our younger players will make their way to England in '05. It's great to hear how some of them are getting on in the Northern Hemisphere.

hi mate, your posting reffering to young kiwis coming over in 2005 probably will not happen.the british goverment came out with a brilliant idea that allowed people from all countries to work in the uk for two years.it was known as the working passport.it was a big success for the young lads from nz but who were from samoan and other minorities,it still meant you could only sign one player who was a kiwi national.he was on the quota.well the goverment has now decided to scrap the two year working passport, meaning the young kids who are not new zealanders will not be able to come over to great britain to play footie.a damn stupid ruling once again.this was a good opportunity to put themselves in the shop window for super league.but if england do not take them the aussies soon will. if a young guy has a british passport he will be able too come over.and i think a player has played in the nrl he will also be able to come over.this is just a rough idea ali of what is going on,my friend who posts on this site will no doubt fill you in properly on what is going to happen.keith is a bit more articulate than me.cheers mate

The position re. Australian or Kiwi players coming to play in the UK has altered since February 2005. There were 4 ways that they could play in the UK. The first was by being a quota player - that is all National League clubs, like Workington Town, are allowed to sign just one quota player and Johnny Limmer is Town's quota player. The second way is by being the holder of a British passport. The third one is what is called the Kolpak rule - this was a court case that allowed players from Pacific Island and South Africa origins to come and play in the UK without restrictions. The fourth way was the 2 year working holiday visa and it is this one that has changed. The Rugby Football League were concerned about the number of players coming into the British game through this method that they asked the Government to exclude playing rugby league in the UK from this working holiday visa. The Government agreed and it came into force on 8th February 2005. All the other methods remain unaltered.

Hope that explains it, troutmaster, my old friend.

Thanks for that Geordie, yes, it certainly makes it more difficult for
our young kiwi boys to get a start with a reasonable club over there.

Just out of interest - does that ruling apply to Rugby Union as well ?

Cheers

Not as far as I know. It was the RFL who wanted RL taken out of the system so unless the RFU has asked for the same then players will still be able to come on a working holiday and play rugby union, but if anyone is thinking of doing that I would check up first.
