You don't even know the rules son...
That possibly looks to be true (fair cop), but, how are Radradra, McGuire and Ma'u eligible for Oz and NZ under the rules then?

Maybe Rapana's non selection is not down to Kearney being a dolt, but as he's tied to the Cooks until after the World Cup? But then why aren't the three above mention tied to Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.

This is the attitude that sees us going nowhere as an international game.
And it's also a view shared by the players unfortunately.
Rubbish, I just want the best NZers playing for NZ. As someone of mixed NZ Maori and PI heritage I reckon I know how hard it must be for a player to turn down one of the island teams when they come calling even if the aim is to play for the Kiwis. If it was some non NZer PI player being poached then it would be a different story, but these guys are NZers. I'm not advocating the poaching of PI players - Solomona Kata/Konrad Hurrell can stay with Tonga. ;-)

And it appears the rules are haphazardly enforced as it is.

Brad takarangi has been named 18th man. He is also a Cook Islands international and is Australian born
Would also be interested to know when manu mau actually changed from Tonga to NZ as he was the face of the pacific test series advertising one month ago.
Takairangi hasn't played for the Cooks in three years, plus he's Kiwi through and through despite his place of birth - if you check out his twitter thread he's all over supporting NZ teams - even the Black Caps, you have to be tragically Kiwi to support the Black Caps.

And the rules need to change
I have no problem with the rules changing although I do worry about how much it will effect the Island teams who will lose players who are qualified to NZ.

Although, having them be able to go down from the big 3 at the end of their careers might be a way to alleviate that. Like Steve Matai choosing Samoa, although I wish that prick chose Samoa from the start, awesome week in week out for Manly, shit for the Kiwis either getting himself injured doing a stupid tackle or getting penalised doing stupid tackles.

just to muddle the waters further - how is Dylan napa a cook islands player and now is eligible for queensland / Australia.

I thought cook islands meant new Zealand representative or am I missing something.

He's eligible for all three teams. His father is a NZer of Cook Island descent. He last played for Cook Islands in 2013.

There probably shouldn't even be a Cook Islands team. We own them. They even use our currency. They should all just be eligible for us.

So from an Australian perspective is it like Norfolk or Lord Howe Island having a team and Australia choosing players if they need to

Think of it like how you use Fiji ;-).

Cooks are all NZ citizens, but these days a majority of Cooks are either born or live in NZ anyway.

But yeah, I guess it would be like Norfolk Island having it's own team.
