The Kiwis have beaten France 38-22 in a tough match in Toulouse.

Against a fired up and confident French side the Kiwis ran in seven tries to four to seal the victory.

France showed they were out to score an upset win right from the start when they turned down the chance to collect an easy penalty in front of the posts after just two minutes.

And the decision paid off when Laurent Carrasco scored under the posts to take the early lead.

The Kiwis answered back soon after when storming prop Iafeta Palea'aesina crashed his way over.

The fans in the stadium got their money's worth as France quickly collected another try and then Kiwis second rower David Kidwell went over in the 25th minute to level the scores at 12-12.

Shontayne Hape added another try to give the Kiwis a narrow four point lead at halftime.

France scored first in the second half when Olivier Charles crossed to bring the scores back to 16-16, but the Kiwis hit back immediately with a try to second-rower Ali Lauitiiti.

Carrasco bagged his second try of the night but with 10 minutes to go on the clock the Kiwis ran riot picking up three tries to Louis Anderson, Stacey Jones and Brent Webb to finish the game off.

New Zealand 38: Iafeta Palea'aesina, David Kidwell, Shontayne Hape, Ali Lauitiiti, Louis Anderson, Stacey Jones, Brent Webb tries; Motu Tony, 1 con, Jones 4 con.

France 22: Laurent Carrasco, 2, David Ferriol, Olivier Charles tries; Laurent Frayssinous, 2 con, Sebastien Raguin, 1 con. HT: 16-12.

The news this morning is that Pritchard and Webster have suffered concussion from this match and are having scans done.

I know Aus and NZ usually play weakened sides against the French but in the last couple of years the French have been competitive. There must be some merit in expanding the Tri-Nations to include the French next time it's held in Great Britain. With the French side entering the ESL and regular international fixtures against the big 3 could only see French Rugby League get stronger.

Dont forget France almost beat NZL last year, and NZL last year had key players out. This time NZL had a stronger side and the scoreline wasnt much bigger. Which goes to the prove France are getting better, a lot better than the sides in the 80s and 90s.
