i wonder if there are laws against criticising magistrates? i've heard radio commentators criticise decisions but not necessarily the magistrate themselves. even with pat o'shane it was rarely a direct attack on her, more so her crazy decisions

I recall one newspaper article(DT i think) about gun crime and weak punishments being handed out, one magistrate is apparently is refered to as 'father xmas' amongst some criminal groups due to his leniancy.

Thats the closest thing to criticism ive seen or heard from the media.

Im amazed that you are surprised that a sportsmen gets more media coverage than a no-one.

But to claim the media never mention "light sentencing" or weak magistrates is a big stretch.

Do you feel they reported on the Packer case incorrectly or in a bias manner? It didn't seem that bad to me. Especially as according to some NZ posters on here Russell is a "high profile" NRL Player.
