To be honest, given the increase is only $19 I don't think there is too much to complain about. I pay $35 per year in membership and get bugger all out of it as I live away from Newcastle, can't attend members nights as they are during the week, aren't able to attend all the games so I don't take advantage of early entry and the like. But I give the $35 each year because it is my way of supporting my team.

So your main gripe now is that non-members who bought season tickets now get membership for free?

Ross - quick question. If a member can't attend the proposed members day early in the new year where they get the membership pack, will the packs be mailed out?

Alex I think you are pretty right there and I know what you mean about the membership for $35. I live on the Central Coast and work in Sydney so I do not go to any of the member functions for the exact same reasons as you. On top of that I do miss nearly all Friday night games as by the time I get back to the Coast it is nearly 7PM and does not leave time to get to EAS in 30 mins. I have also had to miss a few games on other days due to commitments and similar travel time issues.

But it just concerns me that the Knights marketing group have either not noticed this snub of loyal fans or have deliberately flown in the face of it just making the assumption that we as passionate and loyal fans will cough up again without question. I am really hoping that it is the former even though this raises some concerns about experience and marketing ability, it is still better then a blatant snub of the Knights loyal fan base.

I really am just trying to have my best interests and the clubs raised here I am not looking to harm them in any way.

Have to say I think it's great that Ross Cadell has taken the time to reply to this, particually in an open forum, it's good to know that a member of the knights management is prepared to openly discuss things such as this (hats off to you) On the subject of the price, I think the increase is fair enough given the general rise in costs in most areas of day to day expenses, 4.9% isn't really that much. I do agree with Aron though, that the club could maybe look at rewards for long term season ticket holders.

Totally agree Ross should be really congratulated for responding and taking the time to openly answer the concerns. I really think that he is an asset to the club management and hope he has a long and successful association with the Knights

Aron,

I am slightly concerned by the fact that a 4.5% annual rise in fees on one property we have is portrayed as someting worthy of an ACA (NBN - Proud sponsor Program) expose. Dont let anyone know about the 15% increase in Eastern Corporate Suites!

The fact is unlike a telecommunications company (like Telstra - proud sponsor) we cannot create new stock by buying more phones or lines. We have a grandstand with X number of seats and once we have sold x there is no more. This has led to the Western stand being regarded highly as a venue to watch the game from. I can tell you the fans on the eastern side often view the sun or the lights on the top of the eastern stand unfavourably. Those factors and the pure availability of stock are the reasons there is a discrepancy in the pricing.

We are no privatised or corporate entity that chases profits at all costs. Any dollar we have in excess will go back into the club to improve facilities or perfomance. Our perfect financial result is a pure break even every year for it means we put everything we could into the operation of our club. As I said in my first email it is a fine balance between pricing to allow us to operate and maintaining the goodwill of our supporters, sometimes we get that wrong. Only the results will tell us that.

We get no joy by raising prices, it would be wonderful if we could get to a point that financially we had no need to. But the point is we do need to generate more revenue across all aspects of our operations to continue to grow and restructure as required. I am sorry that this has impacted you.

I do not want to get into a long winded debate about the methodology of the price rise and various percentages. We had to make a call and have done so. In terms of sporting dollar value for money, a western stand season ticket for $34 dollars per game rates fairly well across Australia's sporting properties (having just paid around $100 for a day at Bathurst). Should you believe the Eastern stand offers you better value I am happy to change your seating allocation. The discretionary spend on sporting entertainment is a challenging market we are more than aware of trying to exceed peoples expectation of value.

We are committed as a whole to our fans. From the players, our ceo and our groundstaff - without our supporters we will not have a team. But without the cash to operate we would also not have a team (as nearly happened this year).

As I originally stated in my first response we are reviewing the whole membership/season ticket philosophy this year in a structure way and believe that we will come up with a membership value proposition second to none at the conclusion of that process.

Thank you again Ross for your responses and answers, all of it is really appreciated. With your answers I am obviously now able to make a decision with all the facts that are available and they come directly from the horses mouth.

The information you have provided has shown the errors that were clearly made in our initial thoughts on the issues and with your answers we have a different outlook on the horizon to consider.

Your input has been invaluble

Thanks
Aron

P.S. Some nice work dropping in the sponsor plugs there, although obviously I would have prefered that you did not mention one of them:lol: .

lol, it's hard doing a 70 hour week running a $42,000,000 business and then arranging a supporter group! :p

If a price rise keeps the books balanced and the club in the comp, then dig deep and carry on.

It aint fun losing your club, trust me I know. A small rise in price is perfectly normal from year to year for anything.

I received an email from the Knights estemed leader Ken Conway yesterday on this issue. Although it had a few minor errors and misquotes from my letter I am VERY impressed at the fact that the Knights have responded in a timely manner.

I must congratulate the Knights for responding and say that this is much better then you will receive from many other clubs and companies.

I am not certain the letter did come form Ken himself however I must congratulate the Knights for responding and say that this is much better then you will receive from many other clubs and companies.

Yeah he would have been SHAMED into responding seeing Ross did it days earlier.

Re: The FREE Memebership - A little bit of a GIVEAWAY that they just want to increase member numbers form the embarassing 3,000 they have had. If they have 4,000 season tickets then they automatically double their membership base - problem is it doesnt give them any more revenue or 0.09% increase - so Conway can say he's a hero by doubling memberships.

What do us loyal and long term members (who don't have season tickets) get for our money? Nothing! The one WITH season tickets get to pay 4% more than non members for their seats. The Admin remains a joke - but I do agree Ross Cdell being open and honest IN PUBLIC is a refreshing change.

Aron,

I can inform you it definitely was Ken as I received a copy of his response.

If something comes out with Ken's name on it - it comes from him.

Cheers

Ross

Great to see the Knights doing some frontline PR work with grass root supporters.

If you guys stick to this customer-centric focus, loyalty at this club will never be a problem.
